Lilah's piercing gaze seemed to cut right through Helga.
Helga hesitated for just a second. "Yes. Otherwise, how could we be so certain she's related to you?"
Lilah believed Helga was lying. Matthew probably never took the test.
Lilah mulled this over. She couldn't imagine Matthew, ever the skeptic, accepting such news without verifying it himself.
Did he trust Helga that deeply?
“Get the police out of this," Helga insisted, changing the topic.
"This is family business."
Lilah shook her head. "I can't do that."
With that, she turned and left.
Adaline would have to face the consequences.
Soon after, word spread that Adaline had been arrested, and the truth began to emerge.
Adaline's deeds—inducing a miscarriage, bribing a doctor, and framing Lilah-left everyone aghast.
"This is unbelievable! How far did Adaline go to trap her own sister?" someone commented.
"I can't believe it. Lilah's been framed so many times," another added.
"From now on, I'm on Lilah's side in all this," another netizen commented.
"Let's not jump to conclusions; but Adaline's actions are undeniably chilling."
"I was wrong about Lilah. I'm so sorry."
At the police station, the waitress who tried to pour hot water on Lilah heard the turn of events. Her face went pale as the weight of her misguided judgments crashed down on her.
At Aurora Jewelers, the atmosphere had shifted.
Colleagues now greeted Lilah warmly, many venting about Adaline's actions.
"You're nothing like Adaline, Miss Phillips," one remarked.
Phoebe chimed in, “Adaline's actions have put us in a tough spot. We got flak online, with some folks now favoring Xavier Jewelers. Word is they've snagged a top designer from overseas. They're definitely ramping up the competition."
Lilah responded, “Competition will always be there; we'll rise to the challenge."
"I'll keep pushing, you know that," Phoebe promised with determination.
