Lilah affirmed.

"Sounds fair," Brenda replied nonchalantly, making a dismissive gesture.

Feeling elated, Lilah decided to head back to her hotel room to pack her things.

Meanwhile, in the hotel hallway, young Jerrold meandered aimlessly after school.

When he heard the familiar ding of the elevator, his face lit up in anticipation. However, his expression quickly turned to one of slight disappointment upon seeing the tall, handsome man emerging.

Gerard approached, bending down to lift Jerrold. “Why are you wandering around here?"

"I'm waiting for Lilah. She's not back yet," Jerrold responded, concern evident in his voice.

Gerard eyed the shut door of Lilah's room, suggesting, "She might be occupied with something. Let's head back for now."

Jerrold's grip tightened on the doorknob, his reluctance evident.

A hint of irritation flashed across Gerard's chiseled features. “What if she doesn't return tonight?"

Tears welled up in Jerrold's round eyes.

The standoff between the two lingered, but eventually, Gerard's resolve softened.

"We'll head inside and wait. If she comes back, I'll let you know."

Yet, Jerrold stubbornly shook his head.

Just as Gerard's patience began to wane and he contemplated ushering Jerrold inside, his phone chimed.

When he recognized the caller ID as Lilah's, his annoyance ebbed.

Noticing the same, Jerrold swiftly grabbed the phone.

"Lilah?" he greeted.

“Hello, dear. What are you doing now?" Lilah's voice was tender.

Jerrold stole a brief look at Gerard, opting for a minor fib. “I'm working on my homework."

“You're such a responsible boy," Lilah praised. "But I have some news.

I've moved into a new apartment. It's lovely, and I adore it. I won't be at the hotel anymore, but we can still spend time together during your breaks, alright?"

A heavy silence descended, and Jerrold's grip tightened on the phone, his eyes shimmering with unshed tears.

“Sweetheart? Why'd you go quiet?" Lilah's concerned voice inquired.
