"Whatever." She shrugged dismissively. "Now, let's proceed with the CEO replacement right now. From now on, Steven will be the CEO of the company, and you, Lilah, will serve as the Deputy CEO and assist him in his job."
Vida expected to see a sad and regretful expression on Lilah's face, but the latter showed no such emotion. Instead, her face was as calm as a lake in winter. "Did you discuss this matter with the headquarters?" Lilah asked.
“Humph, this company is practically mine. I haven't bothered with the headquarters for a long time. Are you trying to say I can't handle a personnel change?" Vida sneered, her plump face appearing particularly harsh.
Steven, on his part, was eager not to miss this promotion opportunity.
He quickly said, “Lilah, to put it frankly, you don't seem very ambitious. Did you really think your design skills were enough to keep you as CEO? We are in a society and civilization that values education! Now that your educational background has been exposed as being below par, no one will respect you anymore. The fact that you were still given the position of Deputy CEO is very lenient and considerate of Ms. Calderon. It's clearly an acknowledgment of your contributions to the company.
He made the statement in a very tactful manner.
Lilah raised her cool eyes and asked with a smile that didn't reach her eyes, "My educational qualifications?"
"Yes, everyone knows about it now." Steven shrugged. "Even people who attended school with you have also come to verify it. You dropped out of college when you had a child out of wedlock. Hence, you never received a degree."
Lilah didn't answer him directly. Instead, she turned her gaze to the other board members and said, “Even if I have a high school diploma, how much profit have I generated for you all since I came here? You all know how much bonuses you receive every month, right?"
The other board members didn't dare to meet her gaze.
Truly, their monthly bonuses had increased substantially compared to the time before Lilah became CEO. Nowadays, they were practically living their dream life.
"That's because of the strength of Aurora Jewelers," Vida retorted at Lilah. "Or do you think it's mostly because of you? You've been absent from the company for a while, and the company's performance has declined, especially with Katie targeting you. Keeping you in the position of CEO will only tarnish the company's reputation."
Lilah chuckled and said, "So, you have already made up your mind?"
"Indeed," Vida replied in a haughty tone.
She disliked the fact such a young woman was being so arrogant toward her.
Regardless of how powerful Lilah was, she was just an employee. She, on the other hand, was a capitalist who could determine the fate of many others with a single word.
“Alright then," Lilah suddenly said. “I resign."
These words left everyone in the room stunned.
She was resigning?
Instantly, Vida felt her pride was at stake and she responded immediately, "“Lilah, don't make a scene here. I've shown you enough respect. I offered you the position of Deputy CEO. Yet, you still refused it. Fine then. If you want to resign, then pack up and leave right now!"
Lilah didn't hesitate. She immediately got up and went to pack her things.
Steven followed her as she went.
"Lilah, why did you argue with Vida? The salary of the Deputy CEO is not much different from that of the CEO," he pointed out in an effort to get her to change her mind.
"There's no need for me to stay." Lilah's words were casual, yet they carried the weight of finality as she gathered her belongings.
