Andrew, too, noticed Gerard's scrutiny directed at his chest. “Oh, isn't this brooch simply enchanting? It's a creation of L.P's design, truly eye-catching!"
Lilah's eyes widened in disbelief.
Had Andrew lost his mind?
Andrew carried on, “I must express my gratitude for the gift you sent me, Lilah. Why do you wear such a peculiar expression? There's also a bird pattern on it. I think it alludes to my surname Fowler.
Isn't this a custom design tailored specifically for me?"
Lilah found herself momentarily lost for words, her heart racing.
The impulse to escape surged within her, the situation growing increasingly mortifying.
Just because there was a bird pattern on the brooch didn't automatically make it Andrew's!
When she glimpsed Gerard's visage, its already somber aspect had deepened considerably. Gritting her teeth, Lilah mustered the resolve to utter, "It's alright; you can keep it."
Andrew had already fastened the brooch, rendering it impossible to retrieve and offer it to Gerard. A new design would need to be conceived for him.
"So, I was right. This was exclusively crafted for me. I remember you did express your desire to create a brooch tailored to my taste,"
Andrew stated with a cunning grin, his azure eyes revealing a touch of fondness.
He periodically cast glances in Gerard's direction.
Had Gerard been incensed?
Andrew awaited the moment when his counterpart's anger would surface.
Lilah had been deceived by Hualand's men before. The individuals here were far from virtuous, particularly those hailing from esteemed lineages like the Harris family. Such pedigree did not necessarily denote virtue; rather, it often concealed ulterior motives. Andrew made up his mind to get Lilah back.
At this juncture, Lilah harbored a fervent desire to escort Andrew out.
What had come over this man? Why had he suddenly become so ostentatious? Furthermore, she had never made any such statements!
Lilah was worried that Gerard would be upset, but he wasn't. He maintained his composure and said politely, "Yes, Lilah has always been grateful to those who help her. I heard you helped her a lot abroad. I'd like to thank you on her behalf. If you ever need anything in Hualand, please feel free to contact me."
As he spoke, he placed his hand on Lilah's shoulder, his body language clearly claiming ownership of her.
Lilah could feel the tension in the air.
"I appreciate your kindness," Andrew replied with a smile, though there was a hint of disappointment in his eyes. Deep in his heart, he was frustrated at how difficult it was to deal with Gerard.
At this point, Lilah quickly changed the subject. “Have you eaten? I can have my assistant get some food for you."
"Sure," Andrew nodded without hesitation.
