Lilah sighed in relief. She knew Andrew never stood on ceremony with her. She quickly instructed her assistant to order some food.

As they sat down to eat, the atmosphere in the room was rather uncomfortable.

Before long, Gerard got up and left after receiving a phone call. It was probably a call from a client, so he had to depart.

Now, only Lilah and Andrew were left in the office. Lilah immediately asked Andrew, “Did you do that on purpose?"

"Oh, my dear Lilah, don't look at me like that. I was just testing the waters to see if this guy is reliable." Andrew shrugged with an innocent expression on his face.

"I don't need you to test him," Lilah told him.

"But have you forgotten that in the past..."

The mere mention of the word “past" made Lilah remember her painful past and her gaze turned cold. “If someone needs to be tested, it means that person is beyond help," she snapped. “The fact that I chose him means that I have made up my mind to believe in him wholeheartedly."

She had been hurt by love before, but she wouldn't let that suffering cloud her judgment and affect her treatment of Gerard. She knew he was a wonderful man, so she had no reason to make him bear the burdens of her past.

“How good is he really?" Andrew asked with a frown.

"Very good," she said firmly.

“Well... Okay then," he sighed, not knowing what else to say.

“Anyway, how long do you plan to stay here?" Lilah asked, suddenly changing the topic.

"Oh my God," Andrew moaned sadly. “My dear Lilah, I've only been here for a few days, and you already want to kick me out?"

"Come on, I was just asking. I know you're still recovering from your injuries," Lilah sighed exasperatedly.

"I don't know for sure," he said. “Maybe I'll leave after a while.

I haven't fully seen the beauty of Hualand yet.”

“Take your time to enjoy the beauty of Hualand. Or do you need me to find a guide for you?" Lilah asked.

“No need. I like to explore on my own. Unfortunately, I'll be doing that without you by my side," Andrew said in a sad and regretful tone.

Lilah pursed her lips and said nothing. She should have shown him around Hualand since he had come all the way here for her, but when she thought of Gerard, she almost felt a headache coming on.

Suddenly, an idea floated into her head and she said to Andrew, “In a couple of days, I'll have some free time. I'll show you around then."

Andrew's eyes lit up immediately. "Really?" he gasped in joy. “I'm looking forward to that!"

Eventually, after Lunch was over, Andrew left her office.

Lilah was feeling slightly uneasy in her heart, so she sent a message to Gerard, saying honestly, “Actually, the brooch was intended as a gift for you, but it seems Andrew misunderstood. I'm really sorry. I'll get you a new gift as soon as possible!"
