In the morning, Jerrold awoke groggily. Spotting Lilah, he quickly became alert, dashed over, and clung to her leg.
Lilah laughed, lifting Jerrold up. "Morning, sweetheart!"
"Morning, Mommy!" Jerrold's bright eyes shone, full of Lilah's reflection. But then a voice chimed in, somewhat spoiling the moment.
“He's become quite hefty; you shouldn't lift him. You might hurt yourself."
Jerrold's smile faded instantly.
Lilah couldn't help but find amusement in the situation. "Our little one isn't fat at all. He's just the right size."
Jerrold's spirits lifted at her words, but a small worry lingered. He wondered if he really was too heavy and causing his mommy strain.
Deciding to be cautious, he climbed down from Lilah's arms on his own.
The family then headed off to freshen up.
By the time they returned, Gerard was neatly dressed in a shirt and suit, expertly concealing his bandaged arm. There were no visible signs of his recent ordeal.
The cook had prepared a nutritious breakfast, serving it right on schedule.
Gerard attempted to serve the cereal but his arm gave a barely noticeable shake. Lilah saw this right away and offered her hand, saying, “Here, let me do that."
"Thanks, my dear." Gerard's heartfelt thanks, coupled with a gentle smile, sent a blush to Lilah's cheeks.
Gerard seemed to have a bit of trouble eating his meal. Lilah, noticing this, spoke up gently. "You should really be careful with your injury. What if I fed you?"
“Would that bother you?" Gerard asked, looking at her with a hint of apology. “Okay then."
Gently, Lilah helped him eat, spooning food into his mouth one bite at a time.
Jerrold, sitting across from them, watched intently. "Dad, did you get hurt?"
"Yes, but it's just a small one," Gerard assured him, his voice full of calm.
Jerrold didn't say much, but his eyes reflected his worry.
"Don't fret, son. Dad's strong and young. I'll be around for a long time," Gerard comforted him in a teasing tone.
Jerrold was speechless. He looked away, refusing to admit that he was worried about his dad.
Once breakfast was over, it was time for Gerard and Lilah to head to work, and Jerrold to kindergarten. They all set off in different directions.
At the Phillips Group office...
When it was lunchtime, Lilah stepped out of her office and bumped into Andrew. "What brings you here?" she inquired.
