After some time, she bid Matthew farewell.
“Remember, Lilah, I'm always your father. Everything I do is for you.
I would never harm you," Matthew declared.
Lilah left without a word.
Later that day, when she arrived home, she found Jerrold already asleep.
Lilah lay in bed, restless and unable to sleep.
Friday came, and Gerard did not return.
Saturday morning arrived, and as Lilah and Jerrold prepared to leave for their trip, she received a call from Gerard. His voice, weary and apologetic, came through the phone. "I'm sorry, babe. I'm still tied up here. Go ahead without me. I'll try to join you later today."
"Okay." Lilah's voice carried a hint of concern. "Don't hurry.
Jerrold and I will start without you."
"Okay."
After ending the call, Lilah gently told Jerrold, “Your dad might not be able to join us. We'll have to go ahead on our own."
Jerrold nodded, his excitement undimmed. He grasped Lilah's hand eagerly, causing her to smile. Jerrold didn't seem upset at all about his father's absence.
Gerard would have been taken aback by this.
Their journey took them to Larkville by plane.
Stepping off the plane, they were greeted by warm air. Lilah helped Jerrold out of his coat. The surrounding tropical plants, so different from those in the north, caught their attention. Tall palm trees stretched skyward, and the warm, slightly humid air felt comforting.
Jerrold's curiosity was piqued.
That afternoon, Lilah took Jerrold around to explore. They visited botanical gardens and parks, ending the day with local delicacies.
Jerrold's eyes sparkled with delight.
"Did you enjoy today, baby?" Lilah asked.
"Yes," Jerrold replied, smiling and appearing so well-behaved, Like any other child.
It was only then that Jerrold remembered his father. "Hasn't Daddy arrived yet?"
Lilah checked the time; it was already eight o'clock, the time they expected Gerard.
"I'll give him a call."
