"Good morning, Mommy," Jerrold said as he approached Lilah, sensing an air of unease about her. With genuine concern, he queried, “Mommy, did you have trouble sleeping?"

"Jerrold."

Lilah tenderly ran her fingers through his hair, her tone soothing.

"I'm quite alright. Perhaps it's just the unfamiliarity of a foreign bed that kept me awake. Let's have breakfast."

"Okay Mommy. Would you like to rest after breakfast?" Jerrold offered.

Lilah contemplated for a moment before responding, "No need, my dear.

We've journeyed so far and there's much to explore. Let's make the most of our time."

Respecting her wish, Jerrold ceased any further inquiries.

The duo descended to the hotel's cafeteria to partake in breakfast.

Lilah opted for a steaming bowl of noodles, while Jerrold savored bread and milk.

Suddenly, Jerrold's eyes brightened with recognition.

Lilah glanced at her son, perplexed. Following his line of sight, she, too, beheld a familiar figure and her countenance shifted with a hint of surprise.

The reason why Gerard had come this morning was that he wanted to see them. Lilah had only told him not to sleep over. She never said that they couldn't have breakfast together.

When he looked at the two of them, his eyes softened, but when he saw the look in Lilah's eyes, his heart sank instantly.

He quickly shifted closer to her and said softly, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to keep you waiting."

Then he placed a beautiful gift box on the table.

At a glance, Lilah could tell that the gift box was very expensive.

The gift it contained would be just as expensive too.

But she felt that Gerard was trying to make up for his lies by showering her with expensive gifts. In fact, it felt like a bribe.

She said indifferently, "Thank you."

"Are you still mad at me, babe? How can I cheer you up?" Gerard asked, looking at her nervously.

“No need. I'm fine," Lilah murmured. When she saw the confused look in Jerrold's eyes, her heart ached. She didn't want her son to be unhappy, so she suppressed the displeasure in her heart and said, “Let's eat first. Then we can take Jerrold to play."

"Okay," Gerard agreed.

They ate in silence, but occasionally, Gerard would start a brief conversation and Lilah would respond normally.
