When the alarm sounded, she realized it was time. She stretched her stiff body and rose to head to the hotel.
The dinner party appeared to be hosted by a prominent real estate magnate, the central theme of the event revolving around the world of real estate. Additionally, the government's impending relocation was slated to be disclosed to the public at 7 p.m.
Although everyone had speculated that the government would be relocating to the space between plots number three and eight, they awaited the announcement with eager anticipation.
Nearly all the guests had gathered in the private chamber, acutely aware of the impending arrival of the influential Gerard. They were keen on making a favorable impression on him.
With a subtle, warm smile adorning her countenance, Laura took her seat next to Gerard. She appeared demure and compliant in a light yellow dress today.
Laura presented a striking contrast to Gerard's icy demeanor, yet somehow, they exuded an undeniable air of compatibility.
Marlene couldn't resist remarking, “Laura, you and Mr. Harris are a perfect match."
“Don't be absurd," Laura responded helplessly.
“I'm not being absurd. I'm sincere," Marlene replied earnestly.
The onlookers watched them with admiration in their eyes.
“Hey, Mr. Harris, what's that adorning your wrist?"
The gentleman across from Gerard keenly noticed the black hair tie on his wrist, assuming it was a fashionable accessory.
Could it be a new piece of jewelry?
"It belongs to my girlfriend," Gerard succinctly explained.
Upon hearing this, Laura clenched her fists in disbelief. She found Lilah's tactics rather baffling. Lilah was employing a common gesture used by ordinary young couples on Gerard. Didn't she understand his nobility? He surrounded himself with individuals of high social standing. If others saw him wearing it, they might view him as somewhat juvenile.
Lilah's lack of foresight left much to be desired.
The dishes graced the table shortly thereafter and, as the guests raised their glasses and engaged in conversation, Gerard periodically glanced at his phone.
Laura, engrossed in her meal, had her Lengthy tresses cascade down.
An awkward inconvenience came over her and she subtly flipped her hair. Witnessing this, Marlene inquired, “Laura, don't you have a hair tie? I noticed Mr. Harris has one on his wrist. Why not borrow it?"
"Oh... I don't think that's a good idea."
“You're just borrowing it. Or do you intend to dine like this?"
Marlene suggested casually.
Laura cast a glance at Gerard and softly requested, “Gerard, may I borrow your hair tie?"
Gerard didn't even spare Laura a glance. "It's not mine."
