Life appeared to regain its usual cadence. In the morning, Gerard took charge of preparing breakfast and they shared their meal together.
After seeing Jerrold off, Lilah inquired about the state of affairs from the previous night.
Gerard's countenance dimmed somewhat and Lilah surmised that the situation wasn't progressing favorably. Gerard informed her, "I initiated an investigation yesterday. When you were in the restroom, only Laura entered. At that time, you two were the sole occupants of the restroom."
A heavy weight settled in Lilah's heart. She couldn't help but entertain the unsettling notion that Laura might have injured herself to frame her.
Yet, the swiftness with which Laura sustained those injuries appeared implausible.
It was impossible...
Moreover, Laura's agitation didn't appear feigned.
Lilah was lost in contemplation.
"I'll continue looking into it. You needn't worry," Gerard reassured her. “Even if no one else believes you, I believe in your innocence."
Gazing into Gerard's eyes, Lilah harbored a trace of bitterness in her heart. "Have you ever considered that I might genuinely despise Laura and have done this intentionally?"
"No, you're not like that," Gerard responded without hesitation.
Gerard trusted her a lot.
Lilah rummaged for the bracelet she had prepared last night in her pocket.
It adorned his wrist beautifully, blending in seamlessly and adding a touch of elegance.
However, Gerard didn't seem to like it as much as she thought.
Feeling nervous, she asked, “Don't you like it? What style do you prefer? I can make another one for you."
"No, that's not it. I just feel this one is missing your warmth that your hair tie has," Gerard replied as he gazed at her.
Lilah understood and smiled. "Look inside the bracelet."
Gerard turned the bracelet and saw their initials engraved on it. The cold bracelet suddenly seemed to have warmth.
"I'll take good care of it," he said seriously.
Lilah chuckled.
At the Phillips Group headquarters, everyone knew about the government's impending move to the southern district last night. The real estate department was busy with activity.
Ewing arrived at the company on time, and during the meeting, Lilah introduced him to everyone.
“Our future work will be challenging, and we'll need to bring in new talent. This is Mr. Ewing Happer, our architectural designer, who is highly skilled in this field and has won numerous awards. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to him."
