After her workday, Lilah picked up Jerrold and drove to the hotel.
There, she gazed at the building, deep in thought.
The surveillance video had offered no leads on a suspect.
Yet, Lilah was convinced there was another involved in the incident, someone who wouldn't just disappear.
Lost in her thoughts, Lilah was pulled back to reality by Jerrold's excited voice.
“Look, Mommy! Spiderman!" he shouted, pointing at window cleaners dangling outside the hotel.
This simple observation sparked an idea in Lilah's mind.
She had considered many scenarios, but not that the suspect might have entered and left the restroom from the window. Even though their meal was on the tenth floor, someone adept could have descended the building's exterior.
"You're brilliant, Jerrold!" Lilah exclaimed, her excitement palpable as she affectionately squeezed his cheeks and gave him a peck.
Jerrold, mot fully understanding but delighted by his mother's affection, beamed with joy.
Wasting no time, Lilah relayed this new insight to Gerard, not missing a chance to boast about her son's unwitting help.
“My son is indeed brilliant. I'm so proud of him," she said.
Gerard's response was brief yet affirming, “Ehn. Right. He's your son."
Lilah soon witnessed Gerard's swift action.
Within minutes, he messaged her, "Found the suspect. She's a hotel employee, trained in martial arts. She went up, attacked Laura, and left. My men are on it. You can decide her fate."
Lilah expressed her gratitude. “Thank you, Gerard. You're incredibly quick."
Gerard's playful query, "Fast in what way?" came soon after.
Lilah, despite her appreciation, couldn't help but smirk and sent an emoji of a snort. Her perception of him as a reserved man had changed. Gerard never let an opportunity to tease her pass by.
Lilah's plans to dine with Jerrold were interrupted by a call from Brenda. "Lilah, is there any bad blood between you and Laura?" Brenda inquired, her tone laced with concern.
Lilah pondered if Brenda had caught wind of the recent events.
“We've had our differences, but I intend to settle them soon," she responded diplomatically.
"Alright. I'm planning a visit to Laura. Her grandmother and I are close. I can't just sit back idly," Brenda explained.
This gesture from Brenda filled Lilah with relief and gratitude. Even amidst the scandal, no one in the Harris family harbored suspicions toward her. Brenda's considerate call prior to visiting Laura was a testament to her desire to avoid any misunderstandings.
“Alright, I understand," Lilah replied, though she suspected Laura and Marlene might attempt to sway Brenda's opinion against her.
