“Stop standing around. Sit down and let's have lunch," Waylon announced tartly, changing the topic.

Marlene frowned, confused and angry by her grandfather's actions. Why didn't he call for an expert and prove Lilah wrong?

It seemed Lance already knew what was going on because he didn't look confused. He patted Marlene's shoulder to comfort her.

The Lunch was sumptuous.

“By the way, Lilah isn't getting any younger. Doesn't she plan to get married?" Waylon asked suddenly.

"Lilah has a boyfriend," Matthew replied dutifully.

"You mean Gerard?" Waylon smiled and said, "I've seen a lot of ladies in a similar situation as Lilah. The best Lilah can hope for with him is to be his lover. At some point he will abandon her and marry someone else. The best option for Lilah is to be practical and choose a partner who has similar status. Otherwise, by the time she realizes the truth of my words, it may already be too late and all her efforts will be in vain."

Matthew lowered his head and said, "You are right."

Waylon looked at Lilah. "Lilah, what do you think?"

Lilah was eating her lunch with gusto. This family was so conceited that they would never serve their guests any food that was below the standard of a Michelin-starred restaurant. So Lilah had decided that if for nothing else, she would come just for the sake of the food.

But when Waylon suddenly addressed her, she glanced up in confusion.

"What did you say?"

Everyone at the table wore similar expressions of surprise.

Waylon had made such an impassioned speech, but Lilah hadn't heard a single word of it.

Lips thinning, Waylon replied succinctly, “You and Gerard are not compatible. One of my clients would like to get to know you. He is an influential man in Eleywood and he's from a rich and powerful family."

The implication of these words was that Gerard was out of Lilah's league.

"Oh, I'm not interested," Lilah replied flippantly and concentrated on the crab she was eating.

Needless to say, whichever man Waylon introduced her to wouldn't be a good man. This family gathering was about achieving a certain goal and not out of the goodness of their heart.

Waylon's eyes burned with rage. This was the first time someone younger than him in every way dared to defy him.

Marlene was also livid. "Lilah, my grandfather is just helping you out of kindness. How could you speak to him like that? You are so ungrateful. One day, Gerard will dump you and you will have no one to cry to."

Waylon ignored Lilah and looked at Matthew. "Matthew, what do you think? You are Lilah's father. You can make the decision for her.

She has been spoiled rotten by my brother."

Matthew wasn't ready to give up on the potential financial success he stood to gain if his daughter married Gerard.

However, it was not appropriate to refuse Waylon. Matthew was really worried about how to handle this situation.
