Leaving through the door would likely lead to an encounter with the servant, who could conveniently make an excuse that she was delivering something.
This only strengthened Lilah's belief that the missing page of her grandfather's letter was still in the house and of significant importance. Clearly, Matthew was keeping a close watch on her, but she felt underestimated.
Resolute, Lilah opened the window and stealthily moved into the adjacent room, making her way to the study. She began a thorough search.
An hour slipped by without a sign of the letter.
It was obvious that Matthew wouldn't leave it in plain sight. She continued her search through other rooms, examining every corner, but to no avail.
After two hours, still without a clue, Lilah realized the letter was well hidden. She reluctantly returned to her bedroom.
Just then, a knock sounded. "Miss Phillips, are you awake?" a voice inquired.
Quickly lying down, Lilah feigned sleepiness. “I just woke up. What is it?"
“I've brought you some food. May I come in?"
Lilah rose and opened the door to find the servant with a tray of fruits. "Thank you," she said, accepting the offering.
"You're welcome, Miss Phillips. If you need anything, just let me know," the servant replied with a friendly smile.
Lilah nodded, placing the fruits on the coffee table. Her mind raced as she pondered the letter's possible location. It must be somewhere in the villa. Otherwise, there would be no need for such surveillance.
As she pondered the situation, a new idea suddenly struck her.
"The safe?" Lilah whispered to herself, realizing she hadn't checked it yet.
The problem was, the safe needed a six-digit code, and a wrong entry would set off an alarm.
Undeterred, Lilah went to Matthew's study and found the safe hidden in the bookshelf. Knowing she couldn't guess the code, Lilah connected her phone to the safe, hoping to crack the code through its internal programming.
After an intense hour, with sweat beading on her forehead, she still hadn't cracked it.
Outside, she heard voices. Matthew had returned, and time was running out. She needed just a few more minutes.
Suddenly, there was a “click!" The safe opened, revealing the entered password: 780121.
Its significance was unclear to Lilah, but she wasted no time and began searching the safe's contents-stock agreements, gold, and cash.
As she rummaged, a black and white photo fell out.
The beautiful woman in the picture, smiling gently, bore a striking resemblance to Lilah.
"Could this be my biological mother?" she muttered, slipping the photo into her pocket.
Then she found an envelope and hastily opened it. It was the missing page of her grandfather's letter! Excited, she began to read.
