His handsome face was now dark in displeasure.
Knowing the reason for his annoyance, Lilah quickly explained, “Gerard, Ewing only hugged me out of excitement. My grandpa was the one who brought him into the Dillon Group. He'd achieved many significant feats in the past. But he's recently faced widespread criticism. He had to go through a lot before proving his innocence.
That's why he was so emotional just now."
"Okay, I understand. No need to explain too much. I'm not jealous,"
Gerard assured her.
"Great," Lilah nodded. "Would you like to join us for dinner tonight?"
She wanted to make Gerard feel secure, just like he made her feel.
“No. Don't worry about me. You can go with him alone," Gerard replied. “Do you think I'm that jealous, you silly girl? Enjoy your dinner. I won't interfere in it."
"That's cool." Lilah chuckled. Indeed, Gerard was a mature man, not an impetuous teenager.
They continued discussing about work for some time, and it became evident that Gerard had confidence in Lilah's ability to achieve her goals.
Later in the evening, at about 6 pm, after completing all her tasks, Lilah checked her phone and saw that Ewing had sent her the location of the restaurant. She closed from work and drove to the place.
Ewing had arrived before her. The moment he spotted her, he promptly stood up and called out, "Miss Phillips, over here."
"Why did you book a private room?" Lilah wondered aloud.
“With your rising popularity, I thought you might prefer a more private setting. This restaurant has been popular recently and many of its desserts are loved by ladies. Feel free to order whatever you like," Ewing explained with a smile.
Lilah nodded and went ahead to place her order.
As they waited for the food, they talked about work and also discussed Lilah's grandfather. Ewing expressed deep respect for Robert and also talked about his regret that Robert had left the world so early.
Meanwhile, Lilah's long eyelashes veiled the wetness in her eyes. She sipped some coffee to hide how emotional she was.
Like Ewing, she certainly felt that her grandfather had gone too soon.
During dinner, Ewing excused himself and went to the restroom.
A short while later, a commotion broke out outside.
Frowning, Lilah got up and walked out of the private room to investigate the noise. For a second, she was shocked into silence at the scene she saw.
Ewing grabbed Gerard's collar while Gerard held onto Ewing's fist.
They were fighting!
“Oh my God, what are you doing?" Lilah demanded and quickly separated both men.
