Lilah, Gerard, and Jerrold went home together.
Early the next morning, Lilah received another call from the director, Saul Campbell. Once again, Saul asked if she wanted to go to the audition venue. Lilah didn't plan to go to the venue, but when she remembered that Effie would be auditioning, she agreed.
And in any case, Lilah needed to be there so that she could choose a female lead that best met her criteria.
Saul was surprised but pleased to hear her agreement. "Good. Let me know when you arrive, and I'll come and pick you up!"
“Okay, but I want to keep a low profile. Please don't tell anyone about my identity."
“That's easy. I will just tell them that you are my assistant."
After they ended the call, Lilah donned a hat and mask to conceal her identity and went to the location where the audition would be held. As soon as she got there, she went in search of the director first.
"You-you are A Fond Dream?" Saul stammered, eyes wide with shock. He expected the scriptwriter of such an excellent script to be in their forties, thus having years of experience. But the young lady in front of him seemed to be in her twenties.
"That's me," Lilah announced.
Hearing her voice, Saul confirmed that she was indeed A Fond Dream.
He led her to a lounge and showed her the list of auditionees.
Lilah was surprised to see a familiar face.
It was Tess.
Was she aiming for the lead role in this TV series too?
Observing Tess's name, Saul remarked, “Our female Lead is supposed to be around thirty. Tess might be in her forties, but she looks after herself well. She could pass for thirty."
Lilah remained quiet, continuing to scan the list.
Soon, there was a knock on the door.
"Enter," Saul said.
"Mr. Campbell, it's been a while." A woman elegantly dressed in a silk gown entered, radiating sophistication and grace. She seated herself beside Saul.
Tess, spotting a woman in a hat and mask across the room, mistook her for Saul's assistant and didn't give the woman another thought.
"Tess, it's been too long. You seem even more radiant after your time abroad," Saul greeted her warmly.
"Oh, Mr. Campbell, always the charmer. But I've brought back a special gift for you." Tess revealed a box with a stunning jade piece inside. "I know your wife adores jade, so I made sure to pick this up."
The jade's water-like clarity spoke of its fine quality.
"You're too kind," Saul responded, masking his understanding of her intent. "This time, the casting isn't up to me. A Fond Dream, the author, is here, and she'll have the final say."
