A smile graced Lilah's lips as she replied, "Everything's going smoothly with us."
"Did the Rhodes family cause any trouble for you? If they approached you, you must inform me, alright? I only acknowledge you as my future daughter-in-law. No one has the right to replace you."
Brenda's words enveloped Lilah's heart with a warmth she hadn't experienced since childhood. Gratefully, she responded, “I will, Brenda. They didn't come to me, I assure you."
Breathing a sigh of relief, Brenda chatted with Lilah for a while longer before concluding their conversation. “Alright, I won't keep you for too long. Talk to you soon, Lilah."
As the phone call ended, Emma stepped into the office. "Excuse me, Miss Phillips. A woman is here to see you."
"Who is she?"
Emma appeared slightly embarrassed as she answered, "It's... It's Miss Laura Rhodes."
Lilah's eyes flickered briefly; she pondered why Laura wanted to meet her. What trouble might Laura bring this time?
Chuckling softly to herself, Lilah remembered Brenda's call-it seemed like speaking of the devil indeed.
Making her way to the reception room, Lilah found Laura elegantly seated on the couch, clad in a white dress, exuding an air of grace and nobility. Laura smiled upon seeing Lilah enter the room.
"Did you want to see me? What for?" Lilah inquired as she took a seat on another couch.
“Hi, Lilah," greeted Laura, her demeanor noticeably different. With a determined expression, she smiled at Lilah and uttered, “Please leave Gerard. I can give you whatever you want."
Realizing Laura's intentions, Lilah responded firmly, "So that's the purpose of your visit? Stop playing your old tricks. I never agreed before, and I won't say yes now. You'd better dream on!"
Laura persisted, “Things are different now. What if I told you I'm pregnant with Gerard's baby?"
Raising her eyebrows, Laura anticipated witnessing Lilah's panic and distress, expecting to revel in a sense of delight and excitement at the chaos she hoped to incite.
Gerard and Lilah's public displays of affection, to Laura, seemed a charade meant to deceive others into believing they shared a profound love. Unfortunately, Laura was convinced they were merely pretending.
In Laura's perspective, Lilah should come to terms with the fact that she wasn't special to Gerard and that he didn't harbor as much love for her as she had imagined.
Taking a sip of her coffee, Laura waited for the anticipated scene to unfold. However, to her surprise, Lilah didn't succumb to any distress. Instead, she nonchalantly leaned against the back of the couch and casually inquired, “Well, Miss Rhodes, do you plan to be Gerard's mistress and have your baby born out of wedlock?"
Lilah's reaction caught Laura completely off guard. It wasn't the response she anticipated.
"Don't you believe what I'm saying?" Laura wondered aloud, feeling the weight of Lilah's skepticism. In an attempt to convince her, Laura retrieved the pregnancy test report, placing it squarely on the table. "Take a look for yourself."
With a curious gaze, Lilah picked up the report, scanning its contents. The report confirmed Laura had been pregnant for a month.
This was indeed a bit unexpected.
"Gosh! Laura, you professed your love for Gerard, yet behind his back, you engaged in sex with another man. Loyalty seems foreign to you,"
Lilah uttered in disbelief.
