Enraged, Laura almost choked on her words. “Gerard is the baby's father. We were together in a hotel a month ago. He obviously didn't disclose that to you, did he?" she countered with a hint of triumph in her voice.
Lilah couldn't fathom it. Even if Laura's claim were true, she was a home wrecker who interfered in her relationship with Gerard. Why did Laura sound so proud of it?
One month ago.. Lilah caught onto that.
"He's never mentioned such a thing to me. I simply can't believe he would do that," Lilah replied Lightly.
Laura regarded her with a mixture of pity and certainty. “I understand your disbelief, but it's the truth. My child carries the bloodline of the Harris family. They won't abandon him. Lilah Phillips, I came here out of pity for you. I'm open to giving you an opportunity to leave Gerard. Otherwise... You'll be disgraced if you are dumped."
"OK. I'll wait for it." As Lilah elegantly sipped her coffee, she remained unfazed by Laura's warning.
Her demeanor exuded confidence, a demeanor that clearly irked Laura.
She thought Lilah was overconfident. Despite seeing the pregnancy report, Lilah refused to believe her.
But upon reflection, Laura calmed down. Perhaps Lilah's unwavering trust in Gerard wasn't such a bad thing after all. If Gerard were to leave Lilah, she would undoubtedly be devastated.
With a subtle smile, Laura departed, her intentions set on a conversation with Gerard.
Meanwhile, the moment Laura left, Lilah wasted no time and dialed Gerard's number. Though she held deep trust in Gerard, Laura's sincerity, combined with the tangible report, prompted Lilah to seek clarification.
Detailing every aspect to Gerard, Lilah posed a question that caught him off guard. "Could someone have stolen your sperm?"
Gerard was momentarily taken aback, impressed by Lilah's imagination.
Chuckling helplessly, he responded, "That shouldn't be possible."
"Then, what happened? Laura wants to frame you?"
“I honestly have no idea. It's possible the report is fabricated,"
Gerard admitted.
“Regardless, be cautious. It seems they've put considerable effort into this," Lilah said.
"I will, Babe," Gerard obediently assured Lilah.
Lilah chuckled. His obedience made her want to ruffle his hair.
Having finished work earlier that day, Lilah headed to the kindergarten to pick up Jerrold.
As the school dismissed, children strolled out in orderly lines.
At the end of one line walked Jerrold, quieter and more subdued than the other excited children.
"See you tomorrow, Jerrold." A girl whispered a farewell to him, to which Jerrold responded aloofly with a nod before she departed.
