Tracy listened to him and thought it was feasible. "That's a good one."
Meanwhile, Lilah took Jerrold to visit his grandparents in the Harris family mansion.
When Gerard returned home at night, Jerrold and his parents had fallen asleep.
“It must be a long day for you, Gerard." Lilah untied his necktie, feeling sorry for him. “You must've been stressed recently."
“Not really." Gerard stared at her. "No matter how much pressure I face, it'll be gone once I see you."
A smile blossomed across Lilah's face. Before she could say anything, Gerard's phone rang. It was from Laura.
Just as Gerard was about to hang it up, Lilah stopped him. "Why don't you answer it? Let's see what she wants to say."
With a nod, he answered the call.
"Gerard." Laura's tearful voice came through.
Gerard didn't speak.
Laura sobbed. "I can have an abortion if you don't want the baby.
Gerard, thank you for appearing in my life and Lighting up my world...
I-I won't do anything to trouble you."
She sounded too loving and generous. If others had heard her, they would've been moved and shed tears.
Gerard replied coldly, “Laura, stop with your act. You and I know the baby's father cannot be me."
“Gerard, I know you're unwilling to admit it. That day, you picked me up..." Laura trailed off. "I don't want to bring it up again. I'm in the hospital now. The surgery will start soon. Gerard, please trust me. All I've done is for your own good."
With that, she ended the call.
Lilah overheard their conversation and it seemed that Laura was really pregnant. She didn't understand what Laura meant by saying Gerard picked her up.
Had Lilah not trusted Gerard wholeheartedly and if they hadn't shared a bed almost every night a month ago, she might have believed Gerard was the father of Laura's baby.
Gerard frowned. “I think I roughly know what she did to get pregnant."
"What?"
“Remember she got drunk one night and asked me to pick her up?"
"Yep. You didn't go, did you?"
“It turned out she had an evil intention that night," Gerard remarked sternly.
