“But Gerard has never cared about me like this before. I was always worried that he wouldn't be able to find a wife when he was of age.

Now, I'm relieved that he has finally met you."

“What are you talking about, Brenda?" Jenna interjected. “Gerard is so outstanding. Women will kill themselves just to date him. How could you have thought that he would not be able to find a wife? If you ask me, even most of the girls from highly prestigious and wealthy families aren't worthy of him."

She was clearly implying that Lilah wasn't worthy enough to be with Gerard because of her family background.

Immediately, the smile on Brenda's face faded and she said to Jenna, “Are girls from those wealthy families perfect humans? Humph! I'm sure none of them can compare to Lilah."

Jenna was not happy to hear this and she cursed Brenda inwardly.

She felt that Brenda was so old that she had become blind. Jenna couldn't bring herself to see anything good in Lilah.

In fact, she even didn't think Lilah could compare to her younger sister, Elva.

The lunch drew to a close.

Brenda and Richard sought repose in a nap, while Felipe and Jenna escorted Vera for a rejuvenating break.

Lilah asked Jerrold if he desired a siesta. After a brief contemplation, Jerrold responded, “Mommy, let's nap together."

A radiant smile illuminated Lilah's eyes as she nodded in agreement, guiding him to the upper floor.

Gerard's pursuit of them was halted by an unexpected interruption.

Turning around, he discovered Elva gazing at him, her countenance adorned with timidity. She voiced, "Um... I have a question for you."

"Proceed," Gerard urged.

"It's regarding the novel adaptation..."

Gerard furnished her with a telephone number. "Speak to this gentleman; he manages that enterprise."

Expressing gratitude, Elva continued hesitantly, "I've heard you enjoy reading. Who is your favorite author?"

"It's been a while since I read a book."

"Oh... Cultivating the habit of reading is commendable. Perhaps you haven't found the right books. What genres do you prefer? I could offer some recommendations," Elva earnestly suggested.

Meanwhile, Lilah and Jerrold occupied a discreet spot on the staircase. Observing the scene below, Jerrold appeared displeased.

Children are remarkably perceptive.

Jerrold confided in Lilah with a hushed tone. "I don't think this woman is genuine."

Lilah, naturally attuned to the situation, concurred.
