But it wasn't just Maggie in the line of fire. Adaline took a hit too.
The general consensus was that Maggie and Adaline were tag-teaming in a shady bid to sideline Aurora Jewelers. And it left a sour taste in people's mouths.
Phillips Group's soaring sales took a nosedive, with a string of returns. Their stocks didn't fare well either.
Just as Adaline's dreams took off, they came crashing down.
Adaline was livid. No defense. No way out. So, she dialed her mother, spilling all her bottled-up emotions. "Mom, Lilah intentionally threw me under the bus. It was no accident. It was a setup!"
Helga, hearing the distress in her daughter's voice, felt a pang in her heart. "Honey, calm down. I'll handle Lilah. Let me talk to her.”
“But what about Dad? Do you think he's mad at me?"
"Of course not," Helga reassured her. With that, she dialed Lilah's number. She began with a fiery tirade, but Lilah disconnected the call almost immediately. Anger coursed through Helga, her hands shaking. That woman was just too much!
She looked for Matthew, but his reaction wasn't what she expected.
"Lilah's seeing Mr. Harris now. Best not to stir the pot."
“But will she even give us a second thought when she makes it big?"
"She's still my daughter!"
"Yeah, but not by blood!"
A shadow crossed Matthew's face, and Helga could see she'd crossed a line. “I didn't mean it like that. Look at how Lilah's been acting.
Say she gets into the Harris family. Would she have our backs or turn on us? She joined Aurora Jewelers to go head-to-head with us, didn't she?"
Recalling the abruptly ended call, Matthew paused. His voice was ice when he finally spoke. "I'll figure it out. She's my daughter, no matter what."
Meanwhile, Aurora Jewelers was buzzing with excitement.
Twitter was alight with their news, drawing in a surge of customers.
Sales were through the roof.
Suddenly, everyone was treating Lilah like royalty.
Chimes and alerts echoed in the work chat group. Everyone was singing praises for Lilah.
Back at her place, with a face mask on, Lilah graciously replied to the flood of messages coming her way.
The soft chime of a message sounded. It was Gerard.
“Congratulations.”
