Walter arched an eyebrow. “Impressive analysis, Effie. Seems like you're putting that brain of yours to good use now.”
“I've always used my brain, okay?" Effie puffed up her cheeks.
Walter playfully pinched her cheek. "Then why were you deceived before?" he teased.
Recalling the incident with Winston, Effie felt a flush of embarrassment and shot a glare at Walter. “And what about you? Even if I was deceived, I had been serious about my relationships. But you're nearly thirty and still not settling down."
Walter had quite the reputation as a playboy.
"Then how about you make me settle down?" Walter stared at her.
His appearance exuded a certain unique charm, particularly those beautiful eyes. Yet, in that moment, Effie glimpsed a trace of seriousness in them.
Her frustration surged. Deceived once, she couldn't be naive anymore.
She turned her head and didn't want to bother with Walter.
However, from her angle, Lilah observed a fleeting sense of disappointment in Walter's eyes.
Raising her eyebrows inquisitively, she pondered.
As the group settled in the restaurant, Walter turned to Jerrold. "So, Jerrold, you're heading to elementary school soon, right? Which one are you planning to attend?"
With determination in his voice, Jerrold replied, “Newington Elementary School."
Surprised, Walter exclaimed, "Oh? Newington Elementary School? Full of geeks and bookworms, in my opinion. Why not aim for a better institution?" He was genuinely considering Jerrold's welfare. Given Jerrold's past mediocre performance, placing him in an elite school might prove tormenting.
Jerrold gazed at Walter with a measure of disdain. "I will enter the school through my own efforts, Mr. Morrison. Perhaps you should spend a bit more time delving into books," he remarked.
Walter touched his nose in embarrassment. Was he being looked down upon by a mere child?
Meanwhile, Lilah entertained some ideas of her own.
Later that evening, upon returning home, she resolved to impart knowledge to Jerrold.
Uncertain of his kindergarten learnings, she assigned him a test while she attended to other tasks.
Surprisingly, a while later, Jerrold announced, “Mommy, I'm finished."
So fast?
A task that typically demanded forty minutes had been completed in just ten. Could it be that Jerrold lacked the answers?
Calculating in her mind, Lilah decided it was alright; she and Gerard could instruct Jerrold together.
When Lilah picked up the paper and glanced through it, her shock was palpable.
