"Sweetheart, do you truly know all these answers?" Lilah was amazed.
"Yeah." Jerrold tilted his head. "Is it difficult?"
Lilah was utterly taken aback. Some of the content was at a third-grade level!
"Jerrold had private tutoring before, so these questions pose no challenge," Gerard interjected in a deep voice.
"Oh my! Our son is beyond extraordinary! He's a prodigy!" Lilah exclaimed, finally at ease. She picked up Jerrold, planting two affectionate kisses on his cheeks. "It seems there's no need to fret over Newington Elementary School for you!”
Jerrold blushed slightly and giggled, feeling overwhelmed.
Gerard's eyes darkened slightly as he softly remarked, “The child has inherited my strengths. At eight, I had already completed high school coursework."
But Lilah didn't spare him a glance. Her attention was wholly fixed on Jerrold, a radiant smile adorning her face as she praised, “My exceptional child. You will undoubtedly surpass even this. Truly my pride and joy."
“Of course!"
The mother and son exchanged mutual compliments.
For a moment, the overlooked Gerard was left in a state of dumbfounded disbelief. In this family, he often felt like an unnecessary addition.
Once Jerrold had drifted off to sleep, Gerard finally snuggled up with Lilah. His head nestled in the curve of her neck, and an inexplicable sense of unease loomed.
“What's wrong?" Lilah, somewhat drowsy, patted Gerard's shoulder gently.
"Nothing, babe." In a hushed tone, he asked, "Are you tired?"
"Mm-hmm, aren't you tired?"
He was not tired. Instead, he felt an urge to do something.
Yet, witnessing Lilah's exhaustion, Gerard refrained from acting on it, drifting off to sleep while holding her close.
The following day, unexpectedly, photos of Fritz and Effie were exposed.
Effie, having just ended things with Winston, now had a new man.
Society's leniency toward women had always been quite limited.
"I want to say, isn't Effie a bit... fickle?" one netizen commented.
“She just went through a breakup not long ago, and now she's dating someone again? So soon?" another remarked.
“She is entirely different from the image she portrays on the TV drama. This is unforgivable," wrote another.
"Can't women exercise more restraint? I cannot believe it."
