A sudden noise at the gate of the villa jarred Laura out of her dark thoughts. Thinking that it was her mother, Laura got up, a trace of surprise in her eyes. But a moment later, it was Gretchen that walked in. Evidently, she had just returned from grocery shopping.

When Gretchen saw the disappointment that Laura was trying to hide, she felt very sorry for Laura. Gretchen had been working for the Rhodes family for a long time and she had watched Laura grow up.

Laura had been obedient, hardworking, and sensible since she was a child. If Laura was Gretchen's child, Gretchen would love her with all her heart and dote on her all the time. However, Tracy only cared about her career...

“Miss Rhodes, what do you want to eat today?" Gretchen asked gently.

"Whatever." Laura was not in the mood to eat anything. She sat down on the sofa again, her intent gaze on the photo of two intertwined hands on her phone's screen. She gripped the phone tightly, her knuckles turning white. When the phone was in danger of cracking from the force of her grip, she eased her hold on it and dialed a number.

"Yes, that's right... That is how it will be arranged..."

Time always passed at the speed of light when one was happy. Soon, Lilah returned to the company.

Lilah had a social engagement today, and the client she had an appointment with asked her to meet him at a relatively remote coffee shop. When she arrived at the place, Lilah glanced around curiously.

It was cold and there was not a single customer in the huge coffee shop.

Lilah felt that something was wrong almost immediately, and would have left, but she then saw a familiar face there.

"You?" Lilah arched her eyebrows and took a seat across from Laura.

Laura was sipping her coffee daintily. She still acted like a noble lady from a rich family, but Lilah could see that Laura had lost a lot of weight in a very short period of time.

"Are you proud to see me like this?" Laura asked in a voice devoid of emotion.

Lilah squinted at Laura and said, "So, this is your true face."

Laura's mask of indifference fell and she glowered at Lilah, hatred twisting up her features. “Lilah, it's all your fault! You stole everything from me. You are so happy now. Why do you still want to deprive others of their happiness?"

“Because it never belonged to you," Lilah replied firmly.

“Bullshit!"

Feeling agitated, Laura shot to her feet and looked at the door.

As though they were waiting for her cue, a group of men rushed in at this very moment.

Sneering, Laura looked at Lilah triumphantly. She had been waiting for these people to come and kidnap Lilah, but in a surprising turn of events, the men rushed to Laura and grabbed her as well.

"You got it wrong. She is the one you're supposed to take!" Laura shouted.

“Cut the crap." One of the kidnappers hit Laura with something blunt, knocking her out.

Something flashed through Lilah's eyes. These people... They were not ordinary hooligans. They were very ruthless.

When Lilah's bodyguards, who were in the corner, were about to rush over, she gave them a look, silently telling them to calm down.
