"I'm not, Mr. Harris," the leader retorted. "Don't be so greedy. You can only choose one of them. So hurry up. Whoever you choose will be set free while the other one will be blown to pieces in this place."

When Laura heard this, she became very nervous and began to sweat profusely. She was dead sure that Gerard would choose Lilah over her and that meant she would die.

She suddenly regretted coming to the coffee shop today.

But to her astonishment, she heard a firm voice say, “Laura.”

Laura was so shocked that she began to wonder if she had heard wrongly.

Even the leader was a little surprised by Gerard's choice. “It seems you still care a lot about your childhood friend. Aren't you worried that your girlfriend will be sad and angry with you?" he asked curiously.

"Stop talking and sign the contract, and release her immediately,"

Gerard snapped at him.

"Don't worry. I'll give you an address, and you'll go there to pick her up," the leader promised. Then he waved at Laura with a smile.

"You must be very happy, Miss Rhodes. The person you love has chosen you."

Laura was still very surprised, but she was ecstatic nonetheless.

Before now, she never knew just how important she was to Gerard!

She thought that he had not shown it because since he had a child, he felt he wasn't worthy of her anymore.

Suddenly, she remembered Lilah and she couldn't help but look at her in pity. She felt that Lilah had been living in her dream for quite a long time, so it must be very painful for her to accept the reality.

But Lilah, on the other hand, looked very calm, as if what was going on had nothing to do with her.

At first, Gerard's choice shocked her, but she quickly understood his intentions. She knew just how cunning these mercenaries were.

At this point, the leader of the group came over and untied Laura.

She breathed a sigh of relief, glad that she was finally free.

But the next second, a dagger was pressed to her neck.

She gasped in shock, "What are you doing? But he chose me!"

"I didn't expect that you would be the most important person to Gerard. But since you are, you will stay here in order to ensure our safety," the leader said coldly.

"You've broken your promise!" Laura wailed in despair, her face already pale with fright.

“Shut up!" the leader shouted at her, moving the dagger even closer to her neck. Laura dared not say another word.

Tears of frustration welled up in her eyes. As far as she was concerned, these people were being too excessive. She secretly made up her mind that when she finally got out of this place, she would not let these people get away scot-free.
