Lilah was deep in thought. “I'm trying to figure out the true motives of those mercenaries. Did they really want the land?"
“I've arranged for someone to interrogate the leader of the group. As soon as I have any information, I'll let you know," Gerard replied, his voice low and serious.
Lilah nodded, her mind momentarily drifting to the complex situation of the Rhodes family. She didn't feel much sympathy for Laura, considering the questionable actions the latter had taken.
The interrogation methods of the Harris family were known for their severity.
The next day, as they were on their way to work, Gerard received a phone call. His frown deepened as he listened. After hanging up, he turned to Lilah. "We've got a partial confession," he said.
Lilah waited expectantly for him to elaborate.
“He mentioned a surname-Morris," Gerard revealed.
Morris?
Lilah's thoughts immediately raced to the Morris family. “Are you referring to that elusive family?" she asked, trying to connect the dots.
"Correct. That's it," Gerard said.
The Morris family was the most mysterious family in Rivendell and they were known as the most influential around. Onyx and his offspring had always tried to make friends with them, all to no avail.
“If they were truly from the Morris family, their target must have been me. It seems their plan was just to kidnap you. But since Laura was with you at the time, they kidnapped her too because they are not on good terms with the Rhodes family either," Gerard explained.
Lilah was shocked to hear all these. She couldn't help but wonder why such a mysterious and influential family hated so many people.
Gerard sensed her confusion and he tried to explain further, “The Morris and the Rhodes families were once united by marriage. But they fell out after the incident involving Tracy's sister. Now, the head of the family, Absolon Morris, is the former fiance of Tracy's sister."
Lilah now understood the situation. Apparently, Tracy's sister had betrayed her fiance, Absolon, which angered him so much that both families became enemies. That was clearly the reason why they also kidnapped Laura.
On the other hand, the Harris Group and the Morris Group had been enemies for years.
“But are you sure the Morris Group will do such a crazy thing as this?" Lilah asked doubtfully.
She couldn't help but wonder why such an influential family would use such crude and ruthless means.
"I don't think Absolon was the one behind it," Gerard said with a shrug. ‘The family has many branches. Some of them must have done it so they can compete against him for the position of head of the family."
“Anyway, we've sent the mercenary leader to the Morris family," he added as an afterthought.
He was sure that the family would find a way to resolve the problem.
Lilah nodded in understanding and lowered her head to browse through her phone. Just then, a piece of news popped up on her screen.
The name in the title caught her eye immediately.
"Gerard, you are trending," Lilah informed him.
