But what she saw shocked her.
According to the records, Matthew had only one wife, Helga. But according to Gerard's investigation, Matthew once had another wife before marrying Helga. Only a few people knew about this, and that first wife had since passed away.
Not knowing what to think, Lilah immediately returned to Starlight Mansion.
She stayed with Jerrold until Gerard finally returned home.
"Gerard!" she gasped in relief as he walked in.
“Have you been waiting for me?" Gerard asked, looking at her tenderly.
"Yeah," she admitted.
“Why didn't you message me then?" Gerard wondered.
"I felt you would be quite busy, so I decided to just wait for you to come back. Anyway, I wasn't occupied with anything, so I had no trouble waiting," Lilah replied.
Gerard felt she was indeed a considerate girlfriend. He caressed her hair affectionately and said, "There must be something you want to talk to me about then. Go ahead. I'm listening. What's it about?" he asked, accurately reading her mind.
Lilah nodded and began, “You once looked into my mother's background and found that she was Matthew's first wife, right? I checked his marital records today, but he had only been married once."
Gerard didn't seem surprised to hear this. Instead, he nodded and said, "Yeah. Others saw them as a couple, but they might not have gotten married officially."
Lilah couldn't help but feel sorry for her mother. It seemed her mother hadn't even been Matthew's Legal wife.
The thought of it made Lilah feel terrible.
“Also, your mother's background might be quite extraordinary," Gerard suddenly added.
Lilah was confused. What did he mean by this?
“I mean, I tried to look into her background, but no one seemed to have any real information about her," Gerard explained.
Lilah was left dumbfounded by this statement.
Who on earth was her mother?
She was such a mysterious individual that there was not even a photo of her. Lilah became even more suspicious and decided to investigate about her mother in greater detail.
Gerard seemed to understand Lilah's thoughts. "I'll have my men investigate her as well. I'll keep you in the loop," he assured her.
"Thank you, Gerard," Lilah responded, grateful for his support.
"Of course," he replied, his voice carrying a hint of warmth. With a gentle touch, Gerard stroked her hair. “It's getting late. How about we turn in for the night?" he suggested softly.
Lost in her thoughts, Lilah nodded absentmindedly and followed Gerard to their bedroom. It wasn't until she felt his warm kiss that she snapped back to reality. His tenderness made it impossible for her to pull away. Instinctively, she embraced him, surrendering to the moment.
