Howard retorted with a sneer, feeling cornered and unwilling to leave the company.
"What if something unexpected happens?" A malicious glint flickered in Clint's eyes, hinting at his sinister intentions.
Howard's frown deepened as he began to grasp Clint's implication. It seemed they might need to take drastic measures to prevent the mall from reaching its target.
“Lilah Phillips, don't blame us for being ruthless. You've done your job too well," he muttered bitterly.
In the quiet of the evening, the construction site was deserted.
Howard and Clint arrived, familiar with the layout. They stealthily made their way through a corner unseen by surveillance cameras, intent on their plan. They knew that any disruption at the site would have serious repercussions for the shopping mall's business.
Their objective was to replace some critical materials on the site with inferior ones.
The two scanned their surroundings meticulously, ensuring they were alone. To their astonishment, they spotted a figure sneaking upstairs.
Given the late hour, the site was typically empty, which heightened their surprise. Clearly, this person had also infiltrated the site covertly.
Communicating with a look, they decided to trail the mysterious individual.
When the figure ascended to the second floor, they noticed the person was carrying someone on their back, which intensified their sense of foreboding.
Clint instinctively reached for his phone. Having been with the company for many years, Clint was no fool. He knew the importance of capturing evidence. With a decisive motion, he activated his phone's camera and began recording.
Almost immediately, the figure placed the person they were carrying in a corner and made a reaching gesture.
This sudden movement caused Howard and Clint to catch their breath in surprise. The distinct sound of "puff" that followed made it clear to them what was happening.
The idea that they had stumbled upon a murder scene in the dead of night was beyond their wildest imaginations. It was utterly surreal.
In their state of shock, Howard and Clint accidentally stepped on something, creating a loud crack. The figure heard the noise and called out, "Who's there?" before swiftly moving toward them.
Startled, Howard and Clint didn't hesitate. They bolted downstairs, fueled by fear that the murderer might turn on them next.
Once in their car, they drove off as fast as they could. It took them a while to regain their composure, the fear still palpable in the air.
"What's our next move?" Howard finally asked.
"This might be our chance." Clint's eyes narrowed as he thought it over. Then, with a sneer, he said, "Think about it. If there's a death here, who would dare to shop at the mall next door?"
“You're right. But if I were to run the company after kicking Lilah out, dealing with this would be a nightmare too," Howard said.
“But that's only if you get to run the company," Clint reminded him, his gaze sharp. “You might have to spend more to keep it quiet, but eventually, people will forget about a murder."
Howard pondered his words, recognizing the truth in them. His main goal was to take over the Phillips Group. "Do you think that man's intention was to kill or something else?" he queried.
Clint speculated, “I doubt it's that simple. This will probably be big news tomorrow. And let's not forget we're not the only ones who despise Lilah."
