Turning around, she saw Gerard.
"You're here too?" she asked, slightly surprised.
"Just passing by," he replied casually.
Lilah was skeptical of this explanation, especially given his accompanying bodyguards.
As the interview with the family seemed prolonged, she decided to approach. The bodyguards cleared a path for her. Lilah approached the deceased's wife.
“Who are you?" The woman eyed her cautiously.
“I'm Lilah Phillips, your husband's employer. I believe there's something unusual about your husband's death, and we need to examine his body more closely," she explained.
To Lilah's surprise, the woman's demeanor shifted dramatically. She pushed Lilah back, her voice raised in anger. "Go away! You're just trying to shirk responsibility! I won't let you anywhere near him!" she exclaimed.
Lilah spoke with a reassuring tone. "I promise I won't interfere with the testing. I'll leave it all to the hospital, okay?"
The woman retorted sharply, "Go away. I don't trust you. You have too much power to manipulate everything. Just forget about it." Her voice was laced with distrust and fear.
"But think about it. Your husband might have been murdered. Can you live with not knowing who did it?" Lilah's gaze was intense, conveying the seriousness of her words.
The woman's eyes flickered with uncertainty. She regained her composure and accused, "I won't believe you. You killed my husband, you murderer! If you have any conscience, turn yourself in!"
It was clear to Lilah that reasoning with her was futile.
She found it odd. Normally, a wife would be desperate to find her husband's killer. Yet, this woman seemed indifferent.
They couldn't examine the man's body without his wife's permission.
Lilah had no choice but to leave.
Unbeknownst to her, a man lurking behind a pillar witnessed the whole exchange and made a phone call.
“sir, Lilah didn't succeed."
"Good," came a playful male voice.
Lance ended the call. Marlene leaned in eagerly. “Lance, you're brilliant. The Phillips Group is in deep trouble now," she said, looking at her brother with evident admiration.
Lance looked smug. “The Phillips Group and Lilah are nothing to me.
They will soon be begging me to buy them out.”
Marlene nodded in agreement, but her expression soon turned to worry.
"But someone saw us last night. We don't know who they are. What if they expose us?"
