Lance was seated nearby, eavesdropping on their conversation. When he heard that Celia still thought of Annie as her bestie, a trace of mockery flashed through his eyes.
By now, almost all the expected attendees had arrived at the hall, but Lilah still hadn't shown up.
"Where is Miss Phillips?"
"Is she playing with us?"
Some of the attendees were already beginning to grumble unhappily.
"The time the conference ought to start hasn't even reached yet, but you all seem very impatient," a calm voice suddenly said. It was Lilah. She walked into the hall and glanced around at everyone. Her sudden presence made the hall very quiet.
ALL of them had been taken aback by her powerful aura.
“Today's press conference is being held to clarify the rumors about the Phillips Group. We want to make it clear that our company has never mistreated any employee," Lilah said, stressing each word as she spoke into the microphone.
Immediately, the reporters began to shoot questions at her. One of them asked, "Can you explain why that worker committed suicide?"
"He wrote a letter to complain about your unfair treatment before he died."
“We only want to see the evidence to back your claim."
At this point, Lilah's gaze suddenly fell on Celia. “Mrs. Wallace, may I ask you a few questions?"
Celia didn't expect Lilah to talk to her at the press conference.
Since all eyes were now on her, she had no choice but to nod her head in approval.
“Did your husband complain about unfair treatment by our company before he passed away?" Lilah asked.
The truth was that he hadn't. Before his sudden death, he looked normal every time he returned home from work. But Celia knew she couldn't tell the truth, so she said, "Yes, he did."
But she had an awkward expression on her face as she said this.
It was so evident that others began to feel doubtful about the veracity of her statement.
"Really?" Lilah asked, her eyes narrowed.
Under Lilah's fiery gaze, Celia couldn't utter a word. At this point, Annie quickly chimed in, "Miss Phillips, you cannot bully my friend like this. She's naturally timid. If you keep behaving this way, she'll become even more scared."
Lilah immediately recognized Annie.
With a faint smile on her face, she shifted her gaze away from them and said to the other attendees, "Alright. I'll stop questioning Mrs. Wallace. I don't think she will tell the truth. Here comes the evidence."
Everyone was curious. All the attendees were wondering what her so-called evidence would be.
“Please look at the screen," Lilah urged as the projector came to life.
When Clint looked at the screen, his confusion changed into shock.
He couldn't believe what he was seeing!
He never thought Lilah would have his video.
On the screen, everyone could see how the worker was carried to the building and pushed off.
It was clearly premeditated murder.
“My Gosh! What exactly just happened?"
“Who is that murderer for crying out loud?"
“The worker was clearly murdered."
Lilah waited for the murmurs to die down a little before explaining, "I received this video clip not long ago. As we all can see, the worker didn't commit suicide. That was why I asked Celia for an autopsy to be carried out on her late husband, but she refused."
Even Celia was very shocked by what she had just seen on the screen.
She had always sensed something fishy about her husband's death.
There was no way he could have committed suicide so suddenly. But Annie had told her that they could make a lot of money from this matter, so Celia didn't think too much about the circumstances surrounding her husband's death.
After all, he had promised to make her lead an affluent life. But since he failed to do so when he was alive, Celia believed that he could do it after his passing.
Lance himself was also very shocked.
In his mind, he cursed the person that blackmailed him. Clearly, the person must have made money from both sides.
Lance was determined to find them out and make them pay!
He glanced at the reporters, some of whom he had already bribed.
As if on cue, one of them suddenly remarked, “Did the man kill the worker because he has a grudge against the Phillips Group? After all, the Phillips Group is so hateful that someone can decide to kill people in your company just to punish you."
