They then transitioned to discussing their companies’ planning.
A few minutes later, the waitress came back and served the dishes.
Seeing that Jerrold was still sleeping soundly, Lilah leaned in a little to say something to Gerard, but her phone suddenly rang.
She grabbed her phone and tapped the answer key. As soon as the call got connected, Effie's excited voice came through. "I'm about to get off work. Let's have dinner! Where are you?"
“Oh, I'm having dinner with your brother. Would you like to join us?"
Lilah offered with a smile despite simply talking on the phone.
“Uh, no, thank you. I don't want to disturb you two," Effie playfully teased.
“I just got off work myself. We came here to try the shrimp here in this new place," Lilah shared.
Effie urged, "Send me the address. I'll be there in a bit."
“Ha-ha. Sure."
Not even ten minutes later, Effie was at their table. She came rushing in and then looked at Gerard with a smile. “Did you like, save the world in your previous life or something? How could such a beautiful and talented woman like Lilah be willing to marry you and give birth to a freakishly adorable son for you?"
Clearly, Effie liked Lilah very much.
She liked her so much that she believed her future sister-in-law was almost omnipotent.
When Gerard heard the comment, he looked at Lilah with tenderness in his eyes and softly declared, “And so I will protect her with my life."
Naturally, Lilah couldn't help but smile and blush a little. He was so genuine that even his words warmed her heart.
“Oh, Lilah. I grew up with my brother, so I know him too well. And you know what? I can't even begin to tell you that he's completely changed after meeting you." Effie was surprised to learn that her brother was capable of saying such sweet words to the Love of his life even with other people around.
With another faint smile appearing on her face, Lilah bashfully remarked, "You're exaggerating."
However, Effie was serious. "It's true, Lilah. I've never—"
Lilah accidentally overheard a conversation from the group behind her, so she interrupted Effie before she could finish what she was saying.
“Effie, just a second, please."
Noticing that Lilah seemed seriously concerned, Effie immediately stopped talking.
Right then, Lilah intently tuned in to the group discussion behind her and sensed some tension. “Have you heard the news about Botanic?"
"I did. It's trending right now. Bah! I thought they're a good brand.
So disappointing!"
