“Your mother kidnapped my son and wants me to bring you out in exchange for him," Lilah explained.
Adaline's expression changed instantly, her heart stirred by those words.
“I'm getting out now?" Forgetting her surroundings, Adaline burst into laughter.
The prospect of escaping the torment of her current existence overwhelmed her.
Adaline had endured relentless bullying in this place, and the cold, hard ground was her only bed.
She longed to escape the confines of the dark building and fill her lungs with the crisp, fresh air outside.
Ignoring the laughter, Lilah pulled out her phone and dialed Helga.
Once connected, she glanced at Adaline and activated the speaker.
“I've brought Adaline out as you requested."
“Lilah, I wasn't born yesterday, so don't play tricks on me or..."
As Adaline heard Helga's voice on the other end, she shouted excitedly, cutting her off, “Mom, it's me. Adaline."
Helga's tone softened immediately. “Adaline, are you alright?"
"Mom, tell Lilah to take me out. I want to go home. I miss you,"
Adaline said, with tears welling up.
"It's alright, don't cry, Adaline. I'll get you out of there," Helga reassured. Her heart ached at the thought of seeing Adaline in tears.
Helga ordered, "Get my daughter out now and head to the location I sent you. But remember, if you dare try anything, you'll never see that kid again."
Reviewing the location sent by Helga, Lilah exited the room, hoping to confirm Jerrold's safety. “Let me speak to my son. I need to know he's safe."
