As afternoon sunlight bathed the room, Lilah, basking in the warmth of the bed, felt she were in a thermal spring.
Upon waking, Lilah rose from her bed and strolled around the ward and the corridor.
She was eager to return to the company as soon as she could.
Then she was greeted by a voice she recognized, “Lilah, is everything okay?"
Lilah paused momentarily, taken aback, before regaining her composure.
She then spun around to face the newcomer.
Puzzled at how Matthew had found her location, she asked coldly, “What brings you here?"
Once, Lilah had placed her utmost faith in Matthew, yet now her words were laced with frost.
Matthew felt a pang of pain in his heart right now. This was a sensation he had never felt before.
Matthew reached out to assist her, but Lilah skillfully evaded his gesture.
"How did you end up in the hospital? Are you badly injured?" Matthew inquired instead of providing an answer.
His hands halted in mid-air, his complexion paling.
"It's unrelated to you, isn't it, Mr. Phillips?" Lilah, long devoid of any sentiment toward the man before her, remarked.
"Lilah..."
She cut him off, unwilling to dwell on past grievances. "The exit is that way, Mr. Phillips. I need rest."
With that, she turned away, making her way to the bed.
Wearing a patient's gown, Lilah walked slowly. Matthew, noticing the bandages on her back, approached her cautiously, reaching for her arm.
"Did you injure your back, Lilah?"
“As I've told you, it's none of your business. Please let go," Lilah responded, attempting to shake off his grasp.
Concerned that her sudden movements might exacerbate her injury, Matthew gently urged, “I understand you're upset. Let me help you lie down first and then I'll leave."
“No, thank you. I can manage on my own."
Lilah remained uncertain of Matthew's intentions, as he had never before expressed such caring sentiments toward her.
