"Grandaunt Janis, I'm grateful you believe in me," Lilah said softly.

Yet, the faces around them shifted.

“Why would you place your faith in her? You'll end up regretting it," the elder in a blue suit shouted at Janis, his stare fixed on Lilah with fury.

"This one's a lost cause. It doesn't matter to me what you think. I can't trust her. Humph! You should step down now!"

With that, he left the office in a huff.

"I'm with you on that. I have my doubts about her too. Hold on, Keith. I'm coming with you," a middle-aged man said, addressing Keith Phillips, the elder in a blue suit.

Others shot angry looks at Lilah before exiting her office.

Some remained silent but shared knowing looks. One said, “I'm willing to give you a chance, Lilah. If Janis can trust you, then so can I."

Lilah was moved when she saw some of her relatives willing to put their trust in her. “Thank you," she expressed with gratitude.

Outside the building, Keith gazed at the windows of Lilah's office, his expression one of barely contained fury.

A few men of middle age stood by him, their tones laced with deference as they inquired, "What do you think, Keith? She seems determined not to step down."

"She actually believes she's the head of the family just because her grandfather left her in charge." The more Keith spoke, the angrier he became.

His anger was infectious, stirring the emotions of those around him.

"I'll never accept her as the head of the family."

“Why would they think a woman could effectively lead a family?"

“It was a mistake for Janis to place her trust in Lilah."

“A good number of our family refuse to see her as the head.”

Keith remarked, “Janis has faith in that young woman. Let her. She'll come to realize how foolish that decision was once she's down to her last dime."

“What should we do now, Keith?"

"I really don't want to see my money disappear."

"If we leave it to Lilah, she's going to squander every dime."

Keith mulled over their concerns and then, a lightbulb went off. He looked around and questioned, “You all trust me, right?"

Heads bobbed in agreement.

Pleased with their confidence in him, Keith proposed, "Onyx has steered the Dillon Group for years. His company is always on the right track. Why don't we meet with him and invest our money in his fund? I bet he'll recover our losses for us."
