His assistant appeared, indicating Keith's arrival.
"Alright." Getting to his feet, Onyx welcomed his uncle. “Uncle Keith, come in. What's the matter?"
Keith offered a thin smile. "Hey, Onyx. It's about the family fund."
Onyx inquired with a calm tone, “What's the issue with the family fund?"
Keith's expression darkened. "Lilah took money from our fund to put into her own investments, without telling anyone. It's caused us a lot of problems. I can't believe she'd do this. It's infuriating."
"Her intentions were good, but she'll end up at a loss if she's not savvy about investments," Onyx said.
He understood Keith's reasons for seeking him out.
It was a well-known fact that only the head of the family could tap into the family fund. Onyx hadn't anticipated Lilah would risk the investment and potentially face a substantial loss.
Helping family members turn a profit would certainly sway most of them to his side.
It would definitely boost his chances of becoming the next family head.
"You're right. That's exactly why I'm here. I need you to help us recover the loss," Keith declared. "You've been successful in business for years. You've got a knack for it, and you understand the bigger picture. I'm confident you can recover the loss."
Flattered by the praise, Onyx responded humbly, “Uncle Keith, your trust means a lot. I wouldn't say I have a special talent, though.”
Keith countered, "I'm not mistaken about you, Onyx. You're the only one who can retrieve our lost funds."
Raising an eyebrow, Onyx made a commitment. “Uncle Keith, your trust in me won't go to waste. I'll ensure your funds are well-invested and profitable."
“Fantastic! I'll transfer my funds to you. I trust in your abilities."
Now that he'd made his commitment, Keith prepared to leave. "Onyx, you have my full support if you decide to run for the family head."
“We can discuss that later," Onyx replied. With a calm demeanor, Onyx reassured him, "Don't worry, Uncle Keith. I'll keep you in the loop.”
“Alright.”
Once Keith had left, a sly smile played on Onyx's Lips.
This was indeed an unexpected turn of events.
He had a moment of clarity and sent a message to Lilah. "Lilah, I'm aware of the situation with the funds. You're not cut out for managing our family. It would be best if you stepped down from your role before the family votes you out, saving you from further embarrassment."
On the other side of the conversation, Lilah glanced over the message from Onyx and swiftly typed a response. "Uncle Onyx, I think it's best if you focus on your own family matters. Aspiring to be the patriarch might not be in your best interest."
After hitting send, she reached out to Emma to inquire about the stock prices. Emma's reply was less than optimistic. "The prices are still on a decline, Miss Phillips."
“Keep an eye on it," Lilah instructed, her voice steady.
