“Don't worry, Mrs. Harris. I understand why she's being reserved.
We've only just met, so it's okay," Bexley said casually, glancing at Effie.
Brenda shot Effie a sharp look and scolded, “Bexley is way more polite than you. You should learn from her."
Not bothered by Brenda's continuous scolding, Effie swiftly turned and said, "Mom, I'm heading upstairs."
Then, she quickly made her way upstairs.
Effie's constant rebellion kept giving her parents a hard time.
Parents always hope their children would be friendly and open to others.
Bexley kept watching until she saw Effie go upstairs to the second floor.
She thought Effie wasn't being friendly to her.
“Bexley, don't feel bad about it. That's just how my daughter is.
You'll start to enjoy her company once you two get to know each other better," Brenda said with a smile.
Bexley smiled thoughtfully and said, "I understand. No worries."
Brenda nodded in satisfaction. Then, she asked Richard, "Why hasn't Gerard come back yet?"
"I'll give him a call," Richard said, dialing Gerard's number.
After several rings, Gerard picked up the phone, and Richard impatiently asked, "Why haven't you returned yet?"
"Dad, I have some other matters to attend to, so I won't be able to make it back home tonight," Gerard said as he steered the car.
“What is it? Is it really that important that you can't make it back for dinner?" Richard asked.
"I have a business dinner to attend. I'm currently on the road heading there," Gerard said.
When Richard found out it was a business dinner, he sighed and said, “Okay, I understand. Stay safe while driving. I'll ask the driver to send Bexley to the company tomorrow."
“Okay, bye Dad."
Richard replied with a hum and then hung up the phone.
The moment Richard hung up his phone, Brenda asked, "Is Gerard not heading home?"
“He said he was going to attend a business dinner. Don't wait for him, Vince, set the table with the dishes," Richard turned to Vince Brooks, the butler, and ordered.
"Okay, Mr. Harris," Vince said.
