She had no choice but to reach out to Richard.
A moment later, Richard answered the call, saying, "What's up, Bexley?"
In a gentle tone, Bexley replied, "Mr. Harris, I need to talk to Gerard, but I don't have his number. Could you share it with me?"
"Sure, I'll text it to you right away." Then Richard added, "How's your first day going?"
He felt a sense of responsibility toward Bexley, as she was his friend's daughter and now an employee at his family's company.
With thoughtfulness, Bexley responded, “It's going well. Whenever I have a question, I'll turn to Gerard. He's been really helpful!"
If she could become Gerard's girlfriend, Richard would likely agree.
Richard, pleased with her response, said, “Great. Keep up the good work."
"WiLL do."
After ending the call with Richard, Bexley dialed Gerard. As soon as he picked up, she softly inquired, “Gerard, where might you be? You weren't in the office when I looked."
Thinking about Lilah, Bexley bit her lower lip, gripped by jealousy.
"What's up? And how'd you even get my number?" Gerard asked in a serious tone.
Bexley said quietly, “Your dad handed me your digits. Gerard, I'm lost with this file. Can you help?”
Knowing it was his father's doing, Gerard shrugged it off. “Walter's your guy for that," he replied.
“But, Gerard, I'm new here, and you're the only one I know. Everyone else is a stranger, and their talk flies over my head. Can you guide me through this file?" Bexley asked gently.
Gerard scowled, impatient. "We'll sort it when I return to the office," he said.
Bexley smiled softly. "I'll wait."
After ending the call, Gerard placed a piece of fish on Lilah's plate with care, urging her gently, "Give it a taste."
Lilah glanced up at his composed face and nodded, asking, "Got work?
If it's important, we can wrap up our meal quickly.”
"It's nothing major," Gerard said reassuringly, meeting her gaze.
"Okay." Lilah nodded, mindful of Gerard's busy schedule.
As they enjoyed their meal, Gerard suddenly asked, “Lilah, are you available the day after tomorrow?"
After a brief pause, Lilah replied, "I'm not sure. Why do you ask?"
