Chapter 196

Robert's clenched fists were noticed by Janice, who interpreted it as him seething. She shook her head and said, "Robert, just take this as a lesson and be more careful in the future."

Afterward, Janice walked to the side and got back to work.

Robert glanced at the time. Realizing it was almost six in the afternoon, he began to clean up.

On that day, Zurbia Gold & Jewelry was going to hold a meeting to decide the top sales achiever, and all employees were required to attend.

As Robert took out a cloth to wipe the counter, someone called out his name.

"Robert Zabinski! Oh my gosh,I can't believe Ibumped into you here, I was even thinking of giving you a call in a couple of days!"

Robert looked up and saw two young people—a man and a woman—striding over.

There was a look of surprise on Robert's face as he exclaimed, "Xavier Lerman! You're back!"

The person whom he called Xavier was that

handsome young man with a height of five feet eleven inches. At that moment, he was holding hands with the young woman.

Xavier laughed and replied, "I just came back yesterday. I'm getting married soon, so I came back to hold the ceremony. I haven't had time to invite anyone yet. This is my wife, Shelby Ziegler." He then turned to the woman beside him and said, "Honey, this is the buddy I told you about. His name is Robert Zabinski."

Xavier's face was full of enthusiasm.

Robert glanced at Shelby. Standing at a height of five feet seven inches, she was relatively tall for a woman. With a bubbly appearance and tanned, supple skin, she was undoubtedly a beauty.

Robert gave a thumbs-up to Xavier. "Xavier, you're amazing. You went to a big city and came back with such a beautiful lady. You really struck gold!"

Then, Robert glanced at Shelby and quickly put down the cloth. After wiping his hands on his clothes, he extended a hand and greeted, "Nice to meet you, Shelby."

Xavier kept smiling with satisfaction in his eyes.

Shelby sized Robert up. A hint of disdain appeared in her eyes, but she quickly concealed it.

Ignoring Robert's extended hand, she merely nodded in a formal manner and said,"Hello."

Shelby chose not to shake hands with Robert because she looked down on him and felt it was unnecessary to shake hands with the resident of a small town.

More importantly, she felt that the hand Robert had just used to hold the cloth was dirty.

Robert did not mind her attitude, retracting his hand and smiling.

Xavier looked at the jewelry bag in his hand and felt a little regretful. "If I had known you were selling gold here, I would have bought it from you. We had to buy gold for the wedding, but we'd already bought everything we needed."

"It's okay. It doesn't matter where you buysuch stuff. What matters the most is that you two like them," Robert said, waving his hand nonchalantly.

Xavier wanted to chat with Robert a bit more, but he noticed Shelby had been hinting at him

to leave.

He flashed Robert an awkward smile and said, "I have something else to do today. Let's meetup some other time. By the way, I'm getting married in a week, and the electronic invitation will be done by tomorrow. I'll send it to you. Don't forget to attend my wedding and be my groomsman. We promised each other this in the past."

"Sure, I won't forget. I'll give you a largewedding gift," Robert replied smilingly. He was quite happy about his good friend getting married.

Xavier was pulled away by Shelby. "What's wrong, Honey? We're done shopping and have got nothing else to do. Let me chat with my buddy for a while," he said with a puzzled expression.

"I've told you so many times," Shelbygrumbled. The look of dissatisfaction on her face was evident."Don't waste your time on this kind of person. If you have time, it'd be better to chat with my best friend's boyfriend than waste time here. What can he do? He's just a salesperson. If it weren't for you,I wouldn't have bothered to look at someone like him."
