"How funny." Robert grinned. "There's nothingbad with the change. Do you think I will continue to be looked down upon by others like before, Marilyn?"
After Robert finished his words, he did not stay any longer and opened the door, walking out of the room.
The sound of the door closing pulled Marilyn back to her senses.
Robert returned to his office and felt shocked after opening the door. He found Samuel sitting inside the room.
Seeing Robert come in, Samuel hurriedly stood up."Mr. Zabinski."
Robert glanced at Samuel accusingly."Samuel, there are no outsiders here. Why are you acting polite to me?"
"I can't throw away the formalities." Samuelwaved his hand."We have to separate our work and private lives. We're friends in private, but at work, you're the chairman. I'm clear about this."
Robert did not insist anymore and said to Samuel, "Sit down first. I have to arrange some matters."
After saying that, Robert picked up the landline phone on his desk and dialed a number.
"Withdraw the lawsuit on Lena's case. Yes, do itnow."
After that, Robert sat down on the co uch next to Samuel."What brings you here today?"
Samuel glanced at Robert with a strange look. "Marilyn came to you?"
The incident had turned into a big deal. Samuel had heard a little from other people that Kendrick's fiancée's mother was taken away during the engagement party.
Hearing Samuel talking about Marilyn, Robert's eyes showed a trace of recollection.
Robert and Marilyn knew each other when they were still students. There was no exchange of benefits among them, and they shared the purest friendship together.
Some memories poured into Robert's mind, and he could not help asking, "Samuel, have I changed a lot?"
Samuel nodded without hesitation."You have changed so much! To be honest, Robert, it's hard to imagine that you arranged the whole thing this time. You're not the same person as the Robert I knew."
Robert laughed at himself. "I also think I've changed a lot. Even I couldn't quite recognize myself from the change. I even don't care about the means. I know that in this matter, I shouldn't take advantage of this incident..."
"Robert, I understand." Samuel interruptedRobert. "Sitting in your position, you have more things to think and worry about than others. To be honest, I admire you very much. If I were in your shoes, I'm afraid I would have gotten tortured by Kendrick long ago. With my lower position, I could hear a lot of rumors. At first, no one cared about you, thinking you were just a child without any ability. You are even considered a joke in the mouths of those elders, but I believe that from now on, no one in the company will dare to underestimate you. No matter how you look to other people now, I know you are still the Robert I know, and your heart has not changed."
Robert glanced at Samuel gratefully and did not say anything else.
They had lived in the same dorm since their freshman year. During the four years of university life, those who could not stay together would have left long ago.
Those who could still be together after graduation would all become close friends.
There were so many things that they had experienced through thick and thin together in the past four years.
In the past two months, Samuel had called Robert to join him whenever there were gatherings.
However, Robert did not go because of the company's issues, and he knew very well the reason why he refused to join.
No matter what he and Samuel thought along with the others, if the chairman often attended parties with the subordinates, it was inevitable that someone would overthink it. Yet, it was quite difficult for him to explain this kind of thing to them either.
Now, it seemed that it was enough for Robert that Samuel and the others understood in their minds.
"Samuel, why did you come here today?" Robertgot up and poured Samuel a cup of coffee.
"I'm planning to resign." Samuel smiled.
