Marilyn walked into the lobby and saw Lena, whose face looked extremely haggard, but she didn't utter a word.
Upon seeing Marilyn, Lena's face darkened as she questioned, "How dare you, Marilyn! Who gave you the audacity to withdraw the appeal against Zabinski Group?"
Spence r intervened, "That's enough. If we hadn't withdrawn the appeal, would you be out by now?"
"So what if I couldn't get out?" Lena defiantlycrossed her arms and retorted."Can they keep me locked up forever? Why shouldn't we let Robert compensate us? Who does he think he is? 2m illion dollars! A staggering 2 million dollars! Don't you want it? Isn't this just letting that Robert guy off the hook? Mr. Dixon, go over there now and file an appeal for me. Continue to sue that Robert guy, he must be held accountable for the money!"
Marilyn looked at Lena's arrogant demeanor and, breaking her usual silence, shouted, "Enough! Mom! How long do you plan onmaking a scene like this?"
Marilyn's shout stunned both Lena and Spencer.
Lena's face turned pale."How dare you, Marilyn! You think you're all grown up now, huh? How dare you yell at me? What do you mean by me causing a scene? Do you have any conscience, Marilyn? Who's the one suffering from this situation? It's you! Do you even see me as your mother anymore?"
"I don't see you as my mother?" Marilyn laughedbitterly."I don't see you as my mother? When you told me to sue Zabinski Group, I sued. When you told me to marry Kendrick, I agreed. Don't I see you as my mother? Then what have I been doing all this time?"
"Huh?" Lena sneered. "Marilyn, don't actinnocent after taking advantage. Kendrick's family background was much better than Robert's. Besides, it was Robert who caused your burns. What's wrong with me suing him?"
"Mom! Can't you be reasonable?" Marilynshouted. "The fire was caused by Kendrick setting off fireworks! And when the fire broke out, it was Robert who saved me, right? How long do you intend to deceive me?"
Lena rolled her eyes at Marilyn's words and took a determined step forward."Marilyn, don't you dare be ungrateful! What do you mean I deceived you? Robert caused your burns, and he thought everything would be resolved just by simply saving you? How could it be so simple? Do you even have a brain to comprehend that?"
"Simply?" Marilyn stared at her mother andshook her hand with a bitter smile on her face. With all her strength, Marilyn bellowed, "Robert! He willingly risked his life to save me!And to you, it was just a simple matter! You claimed I lack a conscience? Let's have a talk about who truly lacks a conscience!"
Lena trembled with anger as she pointed her finger at Marilyn. "Y-You... How dare you, Marilyn! Are you deliberately opposing me for the sake of an outsider? Was it your goal to torment me to my very end?"
At that moment, Lena raised her arm and was about to slap Marilyn in the face.
"Enough!" an officer shouted.
The reprimand, full of authority, echoed like thunder, causing Lena's action to come to an abrupt halt.
The officer frowned and scolded, "This is a police station, not your home! Take your personal disputes home and argue there! We have work to do here!”
"Marilyn! I'm telling you, don't even think for amoment that you can set foot in the Quesnell manor! The Quesnell family doesn't tolerate people like you!" Lena dropped her arm and sh ot a fi erce glare at Marilyn. With determined steps, Lena stormed out of the police station.
Spence r stood in front of Marilyn and let out a sign."Marilyn, she's your mother after all. How can you speak to her like that?"
After Spencer finished speaking, he quickly caught up with Lena.
Marilyn walked out of the police station alone with tears welling up in her eyes.
Marilyn yearned to pour out her sorrows and cry her heart out, but she soon realized there was no place for her to find solace and release her tears.
