Chapter 1002
"No. It's just..." Elijah stumbled over his words as if there was something difficult to say.
Vicky and Elijah had become good friends at this point, and she instantly sensed that something was bothering him. She asked softly, "What's really going on? Can you tell me?"
After much hesitation, Elijah finally spoke up, ’Vicky, well... I recently met a girl..."
Vicky paused for a moment and instantly understood. "So, you and her..."
"I... I have entered into a relationship with her recently," Elijah said, avoiding Vicky's gaze.
Upon hearing this, Vicky did not have a strong reaction. She nodded and asked, "So, does this mean that our agreement ends here?"
Elijah hurriedly said, "No. My whole family likes you, especially my grandmother. She even declared that you are the only granddaughter-inlaw she will ever accept. So, I was wondering... if you could continue to help me while my grandmother is still alive?" Realizing that his request might be unfair, Elijah felt ashamed. "I know this is a bit unfair to you, but..."
Vicky interrupted him with a smile, ’I have no qualms to continue helping you out. Is there any issue with your girlfriend?"
"I've already explained the situation to her, and she's understanding. It's just that..." Elijah shot her a guilty look and continued, "She hopes that we maintain some distance when we're alone together. So..."
"I understand," Vicky said calmly.
She opened the car door and took a seat in the back.
Vicky liked Elijah's family, and she enjoyed Elijah's company as well.
However, their relationship would remain a friendship. She did not have any romantic feelings for him.
The fact that Elijah was keeping his distance now that he had a girlfriend only convinced Vicky that he was a decent man.
By the time they finished picking out a gift at the mall, it was already lunchtime.
To avoid any misunderstandings with Elijah's girlfriend, Vicky did not have lunch with him and went straight home.
Time passed quickly, and it was soon time for Old Madam Harrisons’ birthday.
The Harrisons were a wealthy and influential family, so the guests invited to the birthday banquet were naturally from high society.
Old Madam Harrisons' birthday celebration was held at the family's mansion.
As the ’granddaughter-in-law" of the family, Vicky arrived early to help out.
There were servants working in the house, so there was no need for Vicky to do any menial tasks. But as "one of their own", Vicky had to greet the guests alongside Elijah's parents.
Although the Harrisons did not dabble much in the business world, being part of high society meant that Vicky encountered many familiar faces when receiving guests.
Those familiar faces were filled with shock when they saw her. It was not because Vicky had divorced Tyler, but rather that she had found a new partner so quickly, and a well-to-do one at that.
