Chapter 271

The alarm in the OR had been manually turned off by Rodney when Melody approached, so she initially didn’t notice Lucas’ condition immediately.

But with Ander’s reprimand, Melody finally realized something was wrong.

She hastily withdrew the needle from her hand and hurried to Lucas’ operating table.

Before she could check Lucas’ condition, Ander abruptly pulled her away.

Melody, caught off guard, stumbled and nearly fell.

As she regained her balance and saw Ander, she was furious. “What are you doing? Don’t you want to save your son?” she asked in confusion.

“Nonsense! Of course, I do, but it’s not your turn to save him, you killer! Regina will save him,” Ander retorted sharply.

“Regina?” Melody glared at Regina with cold eyes.

Regina avoided eye contact with her guiltily, not daring to look her in the eye.

Melody glanced at Regina coldly and then turned back to Ander. “If you didn’t need my help, why call me here? And when have I ever harmed anyone?”

Ander shot back, “How do you still have the nerve to ask? If it wasn’t for the silver needles you had inserted into my son’s body, he would have been better and transferred to the ICU ward long ago. His life will not be in any danger anymore. But look at my son now! He’s fighting for his life now because of your ‘help’! Explain yourself right now! And tell me what the hell you did to my son. If anything happens to him, I won’t let you go!”

Melody furrowed her brow and explained, “I used the needles to protect his heart and lungs during surgery. I never intended harm.”

“What a joke! Then why is he in this state and needs emergency treatment now?” Ander accused.

“I… I don’t know. It should have not been like this…” Melody said.

“What? Who do you think you are? You’re just an assistant, yet you dare to make decisions on your own! I don’t have time to waste on nonsense. Tell me right away what you’ve done to my son. Did those silver needles harm him?”

“No…” Melody paused and suddenly realized something. She turned to Regina and said, “Did you fail to remove the needles after ten minutes as I instructed?”

Regina was already feeling uneasy, but now, with everyone in the operating room watching her, she clenched her teeth, ignored Melody’s question, and spoke

defiantly, “Don’t you dare try to pin your own misdeeds on me! You’d better explain what’s going on quickly, or I won’t help you.”

“No need to waste words on her. Just restrain her and interrogate her!” Ander waved his hand, instructing his bodyguards to tie up Melody,

“You’re not the police. Who are you to interrogate me? If you want your son to live, you’d better clear this room now so I can save him,” Melody said.

“How dare you still talk tough at the end of your rope! Tie her up now!” Ander ordered coldly.

Several bodyguards rushed in from outside the operating room, closing in on Melody.

Melody coldly assessed the approaching bodyguards and quickly concluded they were no match for her.

However, in the confined space of the operating room, any wrong move could disrupt the delicate instruments.

After CPR, Lucas’ heart rate had recovered, but his life was still in danger. It was all thanks to these instruments that were keeping Lucas alive.

With these concerns in mind, Melody hesitated, daring not to move too much. After a few moves, she was soon overpowered by the bodyguards.

“Let go of me, Mr. Morgan! Do you even know what you’re doing? You’re not just teaching me a lesson. You’re endangering your own son!” Melody said.

Rodney, who had been at Lucas’ side, approached Ander after stabilizing Lucas with a shot of heart-strengthening elixir. “Mr. Morgan, we still don’t know what caused your son’s condition. We need answers urgently”

“I understand.” Ander’s face darkened. He coldly ordered his bodyguards, “Make her talk! Beat her until she tells me exactly what she did to Lucas!”

Regina smirked mockingly after seeing this.

‘Weren’t you so arrogant at the auction? Now look at you being beaten,’ she thought maliciously.

As long as Lucas died and Melody ended up in jail, no one would ever uncover the truth, and the Morgan family would owe her a debt of gratitude.

At this moment, the lead bodyguard raised his hand and was about to slap Melody.

Regina pursed her lips as if she was watching a good show.

However, at this moment, the anesthesiologist suddenly stepped forward and stood in front of Melody.

With a crisp slap, he took the blow intended for Melody…

The operating room fell silent as everyone watched in astonishment.

The bodyguard who acted first soon reacted and looked at Ander with confusion and unease.

Ander appeared equally puzzled and turned to the anesthesiologist, asking, “What are you doing,

Doctor?”

Sensing trouble, Regina spoke up before the anesthesiologist could respond, “Mr. Morgan, perhaps we should escort the non-essential

personnel out. After all, Lucas’ well-being is our top priority.”

As she said this, she discreetly signaled Melody with a look that conveyed, “Don’t forget the 40 million dollars.”

Once Melody told the truth, Regina planned to sue her for extortion.

“Alright!” Ander nodded, instructing the bodyguard to remove the anesthesiologist as well.

But the anesthesiologist wasn’t silent. As he was being escorted out, he shouted, “Mr. Morgan, you’ve been deceived! It’s Regina who’s been lying to all of you!”

Ander froze, about to inquire further, when Regina hurried forward, rebuking the anesthesiologist, “Watch your words! When have I ever deceived anyone? Hurry up, get this man out of here! Lucas is in critical condition and can’t handle this commotion!”

Reacting instinctively, the bodyguard moved to escort the anesthesiologist away.

However, Ander sensed something amiss and raised his hand, signaling them to wait.

Rather than listen to Regina, the bodyguards were naturally more willing to heed Ander’s authority and halted immediately.

Regina, visibly anxious, was focused solely on removing the anesthesiologist from Ander’s presence and urged, “Mrs. Morgan, please persuade Mr. Morgan. This is not the time for a scene…”

Before Zoe could interject, Ander interrupted Regina to address the anesthesiologist directly. “What do you mean by what you just said? How have we been deceived by Regina? What deception are you referring to?”

“Mr. Morgan!” Regina exclaimed, looking flustered.

“Shut up!” Ander cut her off coldly, his eyes conveying a stern warning.

Regina, taken aback and anxious, sensed trouble looming.

“Please continue,” Ander urged the anesthesiologist.

The anesthesiologist glanced at Regina before speaking earnestly, “Regina wasn’t the one who performed the surgery. She’s been deceiving you all this time.”

“That’s nonsense!” Regina retorted.

Ander’s patience was running thin. He gestured to his bodyguard to silence Regina before turning back to the anesthesiologist.

After that, he quickly asked the anesthetist, “Explain yourself

clearly. What exactly do you mean?”
