Chapter 306

– Sideline

“No need,” Ken declined with a frown, then sternly added, ” Don’t tell her about my injury.”

“Why not? Don’t you trust Miss Melody’s medical skills?” Hattie blurted out instinctively.

Susan shook her head, and then pulled Hattie out of the room before closing the door, scolding, “Are you dense? Mr. Swanson doesn’t want Miss Fox to worry, that’s why he told you not to tell her.”

Susan belatedly asked, “Really?”

“Of course, why else would he ask you not to tell Miss Melody?” Susan replied, smiling knowingly. “Mr. Ken likes Miss Melody, even though he never says it, I can tell he treats her very differently from everyone else and he’s serious about her.”

Hattie said hesitantly, “But Mrs. Maria intends for Miss Melody to marry Mr. Ulric. Besides, Mr. Ken seems to have very high standards; how could he possibly like Miss Melody?”

Hattie paused for a moment and continued, “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Miss Melody, but appearance-wise, they don’t match at all. As for Mr. Ulric, he can accept Miss Melody’s shortcomings because of his leg disability. “Mr. Ken’s character is flawless, and he’s practically perfect. Hence, there are plenty of beautiful ladies waiting for him to choose from, so how could he be interested in our Miss Melody? You must be mistaken.”

Susan said with certainty, “I’m not mistaken, and if you don t believe me, just wait and see. We can bet on it as I’m sure Mr. Ken has feelings for Miss Melody.”

Hattie wasn’t in the mood for betting with Susan, believing that they wouldn’t have a happy ending even if Ken liked Melody because he was such an exceptional and perfect person.

Even if he liked Melody out of novelty, he wouldn’t stay devoted to her forever.

Instead of taking this risk, Hattie found it safer for Melody to choose Ulric, who was gentle, kind, and appeared to be very family-oriented as a man with a disability wouldn’t have the mind to philander.

Moreover, Maria had a prejudice against Ken that was hard to change, making it less possible for Ken to marry Melody.

As the two argued their way downstairs, they didn’t realize that Ken overheard their entire conversation.

‘Maria intends to marry Melody to Ulric? Ken had always thought Maria was a smart person but didn’t expect even smart people could make such foolish decisions.

At that moment, his phone rang and it was Ramon calling, his eyes darkened as he answered. “Dad.”

As soon as Ken greeted him, Ramon commanded, “Come home immediately.”

Ken asked calmly, “What’s going on?”

“You’ll know when you get here,” Ramon said and hung up. Frowning slightly, Ken endured the pain and changed into clean clothes before driving off alone, soon arriving at the Swanson villa.

Ramon had arranged for someone to receive him at the door, and then Ken followed the servant to Ramon’s study.

Inside, Ramon sat in a swivel chair, his face dark with anger as if on the verge of an outburst, while beside him sat Ulric in a wheelchair.

Ulric saw Ken enter and shook his head in disappointment.” Ken, you’ve been so foolish.”

Ken asked, “What do you mean?”

Just as Ken finished his words, Ramon threw a stack of documents at him, hitting his injured right shoulder, which made him groan softly but remained expressionless.

“Look at what you’ve done while I was away!” Ramon shouted.

Ken picked up the documents, which detailed the changes he made recently at the company, including the merger project with Wendell involved.

Ramon continued angrily, “This perfectly good project has been dragged out by you and still isn’t finished. Since you took on this job, you should have the skills to handle it, but now, look at what’s happened. We could have acquired Taynorma Capital for 600 million dollars, but now they’re calling to say they won’t agree to the acquisition.”

Ken frowned. “That’s impossible, Owen approached me a few days ago, agreeing to let us acquire his company for 200 million dollars.”

“200 million dollars? Owen would have to be crazy to sell for that. Do you know what his asking price is now?” Before Ken could ask, Ramon slammed his hand on the desk. “One billion dollars, this is all caused by you.”

Ulric chimed in, “Ken, Wendell previously had the project under control. Why did you interfere? Now, Taynorma Capital is asking for one billion dollars, and we urgently need their resources; this is a major loss.”

Ignoring Ulric, Ken stared at Ramon and said, “Give me a week, and I’ll figure out what happened.”

Ramon fell silent as if he was hesitating.

Sensing Ramon’s hesitation, Ulric quickly added, “Ken, Wendell knows Owen well, maybe you should just let him handle the project again. He’s a lawyer professional in mergers and acquisitions, so he’s more likely to succeed.” Ken scoffed. “Do you think Wendell is professional? Sure, he’s professional at taking a large bribe from Owen to turn a blind eye to their data fraud, inflating the price to 600 million dollars. In my opinion. Taynorma Capital is only worth 200 million dollars, not a penny more.”

Ulric retorted, “Ken, you’re mistaken. Owen did transfer money to Wendell, but it was a repayment of a loan. You may not know, but Owen is a gambler. Wendell has worked diligently for our family for years, please don’t misunderstand him and hurt his feelings.”

Ken responded, “Wendell, he…”

“Enough!” Ramon interrupted Ken coldly. “This matter is settled. From today, the project is back in Wendell’s hands and you’re no longer needed at headquarters.”

Ken coldly asked, “Are you sending me back to Insterimond?” Ramon was about to say “yes,” but then reconsidered before replying, “You just returned from Insterimond, and Margaret would be upset if you left again. How about this? Instead, you can go to Swanson Universal Entertainment as there’s plenty of work there to temper your stubborn nature!” Ken frowned, knowing that real estate and investments were the Swanson Group’s main businesses while Swanson Universal Entertainment becoming an industry leader was an unexpected success, so sending him there was clearly to sideline him.

As the crux of the matter was still Owen, nothing Ken said would convince Ramon without resolving Owen’s issue, so Ken simply agreed. “Fine.”

Just then, Ulric spoke again, “Ken, it’s good you’re going to Swanson Universal Entertainment. Since Russell has already hinted in the industry that you agreed to let the Justalion Group collaborate with Swanson Universal Entertainment, you can handle this personally.”

Hearing this, Ramon’s face, which had just begun to ease up, suddenly turned cold again.
