Chapter 309
– Brain Injury
Just then, Rodney came over to check on the situation. Seeing this, he helplessly told Melody, “Miss Fox, we’ve already used many medicines on him, but nothing works…”
“Don’t worry, I’m here.” Melody patted Rodney’s shoulder. After changing into sterile clothes, she followed Rodney into the ICU.
After entering, Melody realized that Lucas’s condition was much worse than she thought.
She carefully checked Lucas’s pulse, and after a few minutes, she stood up and said, “He needs a third operation.”
Rodney was shocked and asked, “Why? Didn’t we already take care of the damaged parts of the internal organs during the second surgery?”
Melody took a deep breath and said, “It’s not about the internal organs. I suspect… his brain is injured.” “Brain?”
Rodney’s expression turned more solemn.
Melody nodded. “As far as I can tell, there’s nothing wrong with his other parts except his brain… However, we can’t be sure what kind of injury it is and how serious it is without a biopsy. Then, we’ll decide whether to carry out the third surgery.”
“Understood,” Rodney said and sighed in self-blame. “It’s all my fault. I didn’t do a thorough brain examination for Mr. Morgan. He only took an X-ray and didn’t do a biopsy. I only checked his internal organs.”
Melody shook her head and said, “It’s not your fault. There are no obvious external injuries to his brain. It’s understandable you missed it.”
Rodney was still blaming himself. He sighed and said, “I’ll arrange for a brain checkup now…Please inform Mr. Ander Morgan about the situation.”
Melody hummed in acknowledgment and walked out of the ICU.
As soon as she went out, the three people waiting anxiously at the door immediately surrounded her and inquired about Lucas’s situation.
When Melody patiently told them about Lucas’s brain condition, the three of them instantly turned pale.
Zoe asked with tears in her eyes, “Melody, Lucas will be fine, right?”
Melody pursed her lips and said, “We’ll see after the biopsy, but I promise you that Rodney and I will do our best.”
Ander was calmer and asked, “How long will it take for the results to come out?”
“Usually a week, but Rodney should be able to speed things up for you. I think… the results should be out in about three days.”
Ander pondered for a moment and asked some follow-up questions. Melody patiently answered them one by one.
After listening, Ander nodded and said, “I
understand. Melody, go ahead and do it. We trust you.”
Melody could not guarantee that she would be able to save Lucas. She only said, “Rodney and I will do our best.”
Soon, a brain biopsy for Lucas was arranged.
Just as Melody had predicted, the results would take at least three days to come out.
She said goodbye to Ander and his wife and returned to the Morgan family to continue the final process of developing the new product.
After Melody left, Sienna couldn’t help but say, “Lucas, Zoe, there’s something I want to tell you…” Ander nodded. “Go ahead.”
Sienna bit her lower lip and said, “Dr. Fox doesn’t look like a scheming person, but she’s too young… She doesn’t look much older than Lucas.
Moreover, brain surgery is the most complicated and difficult surgery of all. Are you sure you want her to be the chief surgeon? What if something goes wrong?”
It wasn’t that Sienna didn’t trust Melody. It was just that Melody was too young to convince her.
Sienna paused for a moment and said, “Well… just to be safe, why don’t I fly back overseas and invite an internationally renowned neurologist over to work with her?”
Ander hesitated for a moment and nodded.
“Alright. It’s safer. But I wonder if Melody will be uncomfortable with this…”
Zoe said, “Melody is not that kind of person. I believe she will understand us.”
After the three of them discussed it, they finally decided to let Sienna fly back overseas.

At the same time.
In Zoe’s workshop.
Melody spent the entire afternoon finally producing a complete sample on the last day. Just as she was splitting the data, Colin called. Melody had previously instructed Colin not to contact her by phone unless there was a special situation.
Melody’s heart tightened when she saw Colin’s call. She quickly pressed the answer button. “Colin, you…”
Before she could finish, a familiar voice came from the other end. “Melody, how have you been since you went to Silverlake?”
It was Quentin!
It had been too long since she heard Quentin’s voice. It was as if a century had passed.
Melody’s Adam’s apple bobbed. Excited, she couldn’t to find her voice for a while.
“Quentin…”
Quentin was keenly aware of the sobbing tone in her voice.
“Silly girl, why are you crying?”
“No…” Melody sniffed and said, “I just… I just missed you.”
“Alright, don’t cry. I’ll come and find you soon after I take care of things here.”
Melody’s heart trembled. She quickly asked, “Quentin, are you going to Silverlake?”
“Yeah.”
“But… didn’t you say that you won’t come out of the mountains for a special reason?”
Quentin replied, “But this time, the situation is special. Jennie has returned to the country. I suspect that there’s someone behind her. If the malicious doctors’ faction reappears… By then, the entire Halcyon will be in turmoil.”
“Then… when are you coming over?”
“I still need some time. Before that, you have to help me figure out the reason she came back.”
“I understand,” Melody said firmly. “I will figure it out.”
“Alright.” Quentin paused for a moment and said, “I heard from Colin that you plan to restore your appearance?”
“Well… I want to show my true face. But if you think that’s not good, I’ll stop now.”
“There’s no need. You’ve already grown up. You’re not what you used to be. You have the ability to deal with the trouble brought to you by restoring your appearance. Moreover, you can’t show this face for the rest of your life. I’m looking forward to seeing your original appearance.”
Melody’s expression froze.
‘What did Quentin mean by I’m not what I used to be? Could it be that Quentin knew about my rebirth? That shouldn’t be the case…
Melody wondered.
Quentin was very powerful, but not so powerful that he could predict everything.
She was about to ask when Quentin said, “It’s not convenient to talk on the phone. We’ll talk when we meet. By the way, I asked Colin to bring you my card. Inside is all my savings. The password is the date you became my disciple. Help me buy a secluded house in Silverlake. The rest of the money is yours.”
“Okay…”
Melody had just answered when the call was hung up.
Quentin had been honest and upright for half his life, so she assumed that his savings should not be much.
Melody thought she should work hard to earn money and help Quentin buy a house with her own ability.
As she was thinking, Errol, the sales manager, called.
“Miss Fox, there’s news about the house you asked me to buy last time. A few clients want your house. I’ll send you the price of each house later. If there’s no problem, you can come over and sign the
contract now.”
“Okay.”
Melody hung up the phone and soon received a price list from Errol.
