Chapter 375
Melody’s hand reached into the pocket, feeling a cold, slick, and terrifying sensation. It was a snake!
Birthmark Guy laughed, enduring his pain, and said, “You’re finished! This is my specially trained baby viper. A bite from it means you’ll be dead within ten minutes! Even if you get to the hospital, it’ll be too late. Hahaha!” He laughed maniacally, his face contorted with glee.
Birthmark Guy’s viper was unlike ordinary ones. It was extremely venomous and spreading its poison rapidly.
But in the next moment, his laughter stopped abruptly. Melody, after a slight pause, calmly pulled the viper out of the pocket with her bare hands. Not only that, but the snake seemed to regard Melody as its master, coiling affectionately around her arm without showing any signs of aggression.
“What… what’s happening…” Birthmark Guy could hardly believe his eyes. This viper was known to recognize only one master, fiercely biting anyone else who came near, but Melody had no visible injuries on her hands.
“Duke!” Birthmark Guy called out the name of the viper, shouting with all his might, “Bite her! Kill her!”
But the viper, Duke, ignored Birthmark Guy’s command. Instead, it even raised its head and hissed warningly at him. The man was startled. His earlier shouting had drained what little energy he had left. Now, he lay on the ground, wailing in despair and pain, his eyes still filled with confusion and anger. ‘Why? This is my viper. How is it listening to this woman instead?’ he wondered.
Melody’s lips curled into a faint smile, but her eyes remained icy. Raised in the mountains, her teacher often made her soak in a special medicinal bath to protect her from venomous snakes. The scent would repel most snakes, except for one kind… which was unusually drawn to her. Those were the snakes raised by the malicious doctors.
Melody suddenly grabbed Birthmark Guy’s neck, coldly demanding, “Tell me! How do you know the malicious doctors?”
you Birthmark Guy’s eyes widened in shock. “H-how do know…” He could barely speak, feeling his strength drain. The pain in his body intensified, making it hard for him to breathe. He no longer cared about what Melody was saying. Desperately, he grabbed her sleeve and begged, “Help me… I’m dying…”
Melody snorted as she continued, “Only you can save yourself. If you don’t answer my questions, you’ll keep suffering.”
After she felt Birthmark Guy’s two accomplices had regained their composure, she glanced over at them. The two men were instantly drenched in cold sweat, dropping to their knees and covering their heads. “Please spare us! We’ll stay out of it; you handle your business…”
Seeing their terrified state, Melody knew they wouldn’t dare interfere, but she still ordered Duke, coiled around her arm, to crawl toward them. The two men screamed in terror. Melody warned with a flat voice, “Don’t try anything funny; it won’t hurt you.”
They quickly agreed, “We’ll make sure to behave ourselves!”
With Duke’s intimidation in place, Melody knew they wouldn’t dare try anything sneaky. She turned her attention back to Birthmark Guy. He had completely collapsed on the ground. Realizing that his henchmen would never come to his aid, he shut his eyes in despair and, almost in a whisper, said, “I’ll tell you everything. My phone is in the pocket on the other side. I’m not lying this time…”
Melody strained to hear what Birthmark Guy, barely able to speak, was saying. This time, she cautiously avoided using her hands directly and instead tugged at his pocket from the outside. In the next moment, a phone slipped out. He was telling the truth this time.
Melody unlocked it with Birthmark Guy’s fingerprint and quickly accessed the forum. Her gaze hardened when she saw the reward page with the ID name. It was Mabel.
Melody wondered, ‘If Mabel hired someone to go after me under normal circumstances, it wouldn’t be surprising. But tonight, I was in disguise. Why would Mabel be targeting me, the Wilona Knowles persona?’
Melody suddenly recalled the look Mabel had given her when leaving with Ulric. She immediately understood why Mabel had hired someone to kill her. A jealous woman could do anything when she was angry. So it meant that Mabel’s interaction with Ulric today hadn’t gone well.
With these thoughts racing through her mind, Melody pushed Mabel out of her thoughts and asked again, “So, what’s your connection to the malicious doctors?”
Birthmark Guy gritted his teeth, but the escalating pain made him lose his resolve. His eyes were devoid of any resistance. “I… I don’t know any malicious doctors…”
Melody narrowed her eyes. “A viper like this is only kept by malicious doctors. Are you still lying? Looks like you haven’t had enough pain yet…”
“No, no, no!” Birthmark Guy protested quickly. “I just saw this kind of viper for sale on a forum, so I bought Duke from him. I’ve only had it for less than two months. You can ask my men! If I knew he was a malicious doctor, I wouldn’t have dared to buy from him!”
Melody glanced at Birthmark Guy’s phone and saw the order for Duke. He was genuinely terrified and begged, “Please let me go! I swear I’m telling the truth. I’m not lying. I swear on my mother’s grave!”
Melody gave him a cold glance, then swiftly knocked him out with a precise strike and removed the silver needles from him. She put away the needles and, ignoring the other two men trembling on the ground, whistled.
Moments later, figures emerged from the trees, moving quickly towards Melody. “Miss Fox!” they greeted respectfully. These were the bodyguards Ken had assigned to protect her. Melody had texted them before she got out of the car, instructing them not to appear until she whistled.
She nodded and said, “Deal with these guys. They’re involved with the black market forum and the malicious doctors, so don’t alert the authorities to avoid any trouble for Ken. You can ask James for further instructions on how to handle them.”
“Yes! Miss Fox!” The bodyguards moved toward the Death Riders.
Birthmark Guy was unconscious, and his two henchmen, seeing the sudden appearance of these well-trained professionals, were struck with a profound sense of dread. ‘What kind of powerful figure have we crossed?’ they thought.
Meanwhile, Melody expertly removed Duke’s two fangs, ensuring it would no longer pose a threat to anyone. After doing so, she released Duke back into the wild. The area was remote, nestled between mountains and water, making it a perfect habitat for it.
“Go on, and remember, if you see people, run. Sometimes people can be scarier than you,” Melody said to Duke, and it seemed to understand, giving her one last look before disappearing into the woods.
Melody washed her hands with bottled water, ignored the Death Riders, and drove down the mountain. To her surprise, she encountered Ken’s car halfway down.
