Chapter 379
“How dare you, you vile little bitch! You’re talking nonsense. I swear, you must be out of your mind!” Russell shouted angrily, waving his hand as he gave his order. “Get her immediately! I want her sent to a mental facility right now!”
The butler was taken aback by how things had escalated. He knew how capable Melody was, so he wisely took a few steps back, avoiding direct confrontation. However, the other servants clearly didn’t understand what they were up against. A group of them approached with ropes, ready to restrain Melody.
Melody gave a cold, mocking smile. “You amateurs. Do you guys really think you can take me down?”
Russell felt disrespected by Melody and shouted in fury, “Tie her up now! Do it immediately!” He was calculating in his mind, ‘Melody can never get Silk Beauty Cosmetics or any shares in the Justalion Group. She won’t get anything, not even a dime. If I could just get her committed to a mental facility, those assets would naturally become mine. It would be much easier than severing our family ties. Who knows, maybe a few days in there would even make Melody more compliant and obedient, turning her into the dutiful daughter I’ve always wanted.’ Russell thought it was a brilliant idea and urged the servants to restrain Melody.
Melody’s lips pressed into a thin line as she watched the approaching figures, finding the scene almost laughable. She couldn’t believe that her own father was using the household staff to force her into a mental institution. Taking a deep breath to suppress the bitterness rising in her chest, she said coldly, “I suggest you guys back off if you don’t want to regret it.”
“Don’t talk back!” Russell shouted and then turned his gaze to the servants. “Whoever catches her first gets twenty thousand dollars!” At the promise of a reward, the servants rushed at Melody without a second thought.
Mabel smirked as she thought, ‘Melody, no matter how skilled you are, you can’t beat them all. There’s always strength in numbers. Just wait to be locked up, you little bitch!’
But just as Mabel’s thoughts settled, Melody’s form seemed to blur. Her speed was so incredible that she appeared as a mere streak of movement. In an instant, every servant who had charged at Melody was on the ground, writhing in pain.
“What… what’s happening?” Mabel’s eyes widened in disbelief as she took in the sight, considering there were over a dozen servants involved.
The butler, hiding behind a pillar, breathed a sigh of relief. He was glad he had the foresight to retreat, seeing the pitiful state of the servants.
Russell was the last to come to his senses. He stared at the groaning servants, questioning if Melody was truly his daughter. He wondered how had she become so formidable. Before he could process it further, Melody was standing right in front of him. He instinctively took a step back, panic flashing in his eyes. “What are you going to do?”
Mabel, sweating with fear, warned, “Melody, calm down! That’s our dad! If you lay a hand on him, you’ll be condemned!”
Russell, trying to muster his courage, straightened up. “Go ahead. I want to see if you dare!”
Melody sneered, stopping not far away from Russell. “Hit you? I’d rather not dirty my hands.” She pulled out a document she had written, holding it up in front of Russell. “Sign this immediately, and from now on, we have no further ties!”
“Over my dead body!” Russell refused without a second thought. “You ungrateful wretch, you won’t get anything from this family!”
“Anything from this family?” Melody said with a bitter laugh. “Without my mother, would this family even exist?”
Before Russell could respond, the sound of sirens cut through the chaos. Mabel’s eyes lit up with triumph as she said, “You’re done for! The police are here. We’re pressing charges for assault!”
“I was only defending myself,” Melody said coolly, showing no fear.
At that moment, Yolanda’s voice rang out from the doorway. “Russell! Mabel! I’m back.”
Both Russell and Mabel looked toward the door in surprise. Yolanda entered, flanked by two police officers. Mabel rushed over to Yolanda, overwhelmed with joy. Her mother was back, her pillar of support.
The mother and daughter embraced tightly, Mabel crying with relief, “Mom, you’re finally back!”
Yolanda nodded and quietly asked, “Did you get help from Ulric?”
“Yes!” Mabel said excitedly. “I didn’t expect him to act so quickly…”
“No wonder…” Yolanda left her thought unfinished. It was clear now why the person who had betrayed her suddenly changed his story, choosing to admit to defamation rather than revealing her involvement in the theft of the ley Clear Cosmetics formula.
“Yolanda,” Russell said, stepping towards his wife. “It’s a relief you’re back. We owe it all to Mabel,”
If Yolanda hadn’t returned, the family’s reputation would have been ruined, and Mabel’s future would have been at an end. Russell was just relieved that Yolanda was back and didn’t think much about the personal suffering Yolanda endured.
“Yeah…” Yolanda, not realizing Russell’s true thoughts, assumed he was simply worried about her well-being. Noting the police presence, she quickly added, “Truth will come out in the end. I always knew I’d come back.” As she spoke, her gaze fell on the servants sprawled on the ground, and she asked in surprise, “Russell, what happened here?”
Russell, snapping back to the present, pointed at Melody and told the officers, “Officers, arrest her! She’s the one who assaulted the servants and threatened to take half of our assets!”
The officers, initially just escorting Yolanda, became serious upon hearing this. “What’s going on?”
Melody spoke up to explain immediately, “They attacked me first!”
“You’re lying! Assaulting people and then trying to make excuses in front of the police? You’ve crossed the line!” Russell shouted angrily. “As your father, I can’t control you anymore. You’re going to the station for sure!” Turning to the officers with a forced smile, Russell said, “This is my daughter. She’s always been rebellious, and now she resorted to violence. Please, take her away!”
The officers exchanged uncertain glances. After a brief silent exchange, one officer asked, “A young woman took down all these people?”
“Absolutely. If you don’t believe me, you can ask them!”
As the servants prepared to speak, a stern voice interrupted, “Russell. Why are you always stirring up such chaos at home?”
Everyone turned to see Margaret, who should have been too ill to move, was at the doorway.
