Chapter 532
Melody suddenly noticed a crowd gathered not far ahead, with a person lying on the ground amidst them. The crowd was conveniently blocking the parking spot.
The death warrior, assigned as her driver, turned his head and said, “Miss Fox, the parking spot is taken by that crowd. Would you like to get out and go inside first, or should I clear them away, park the car, and then accompany you inside?”
Death warriors were trained from a young age to be like machines, devoid of emotions, with only the command “obey” ingrained in their minds. Naturally, they wouldn’t care why the crowd had gathered.
Melody frowned and said, “You stay in the car. I’ll go see what’s happening.”
The death warrior hesitated. “Miss Fox, this isn’t according to the rules…”
Before he could finish speaking, Melody had already swiftly exited the car.
As she approached the crowd, Melody understood the situation.
A young girl had suddenly fallen ill, writhing on the ground in pain. Her mother, overwhelmed with panic, was crying for help. However, none of the bystanders knew any medical skills. They could only call for an ambulance.
A nearby resident said sympathetically, “The nearest hospital is at least twenty minutes away, and it’s rush hour, with traffic jams everywhere. By the time help arrives, I’m afraid the child will be…”
The person didn’t finish, but everyone understood what was implied.
The child’s mother began crying even more desperately, screaming for help.
While the bystanders felt sorry for the mother and daughter, none of them wanted to get involved. They feared trouble, so no one offered to drive the girl to the hospital.
Melody was about to step forward and check on the girl when a familiar voice cut through the crowd ahead of her. “I’m a doctor. Everyone, step aside. Let me see what’s going on.”
The crowd immediately made way for the newcomer. The child’s mother tearfully thanked him. “Thank you! Please save my child!”
The man nodded, squatted beside the girl, and began examining her. From that angle, Melody could see his face.
Melody raised an eyebrow in surprise. It was Cason, who had claimed to be a renowned doctor returned from abroad.
Back when Lucas urgently needed surgery, his aunt, Sienna, had invited Cason to treat him. But when Cason discovered a vascular tumor in Lucas’s brain, he refused to operate and even made some snide remarks. It led to him being kicked out by the Morgan family.
She had assumed Cason had returned abroad, but it seemed he was still around.
However, this worked out well. She had an appointment with Owen soon. If she lingered here, she might be late.
While Cason’s character and medical ethics were questionable, his skills were probably adequate for handling a situation like this. With that in mind, Melody decided not to get involved further.
However, in the next second, Cason spoke up. “Your daughter’s condition
is critical, but I can treat her. I can keep her stable until the ambulance arrives. However, the consultation fee…”
The girl’s mother quickly said, “As long as you can save my daughter, I’ll give you all the money I have!”
With that, she took out her wallet. Inside, there was a small stack of bills, adding up to about sixty dollars.
“Sixty dollars?” Cason’s expression changed. Ignoring the little girl writhing on the ground, he stood up and said, “That’s an insult! My expertise doesn’t come cheap. I am a renowned doctor who came back from abroad to treat wealthy patients. My consultation fee is at least six thousand dollars!”
“Six thousand dollars?” The mother became panicked. “But we don’t have that kind of money…”
“I don’t do charity. What a waste of my time!” Cason rolled his eyes, without caring about the disapproving looks from the crowd. The others were bewildered.
The girl’s mother collapsed to the ground, her expression was full of worry and despair.
Melody couldn’t believe that Cason’s character and medical ethics were this rotten.
Most doctors in Halcyon took the well-being of their patients as their duty. However, people like Cason and Adrian ruined the reputation of the profession, leading to a decline in public trust and a rise in doctor-patient disputes.
Melody clenched her jaw angrily and grabbed Cason’s arm as he passed by her. “How can you see someone in such a condition and not help? How could you call yourself a doctor? You don’t even deserve to be a human being!”
Cason was stunned, clearly not expecting someone to scold him so directly. He glared at Melody, finding her somewhat familiar, but he couldn’t quite place her.
Melody’s makeup was partially done, so it was understandable that Cason didn’t recognize her. She continued coldly, “Even if she has six thousand dollars, won’t you feel guilty if you take them?”
“Mind your own business!” Cason shook off Melody’s hand and pointed at her. “Do you know who I am? How dare you scold me! You should be grateful that I have other things to do right now, or else I wouldn’t let this go!”
As soon as he finished speaking, a shadow suddenly appeared in front of Cason. With a swift move, the death warrior pinned him to the ground.
Cason cried out in pain. “Who are you people? Let me go! Help! I’m being attacked!”
Melody saw the death warrior appear and was tempted to let him teach Cason a lesson. However, knowing the death warrior’s lack of restraint, she realized that a harsh lesson might cause more trouble for her.
“Let him go,” Melody ordered. “It’s not worth wasting energy on garbage like him.”
The death warrior, obedient to Melody’s commands, immediately released Cason.
Looking at the menacing figure of the death warrior, Cason choked back the insults he wanted to hurl and fled. He shouted, “You’re done for!” He ran into a nearby house.
Melody recognized Cason was heading to the address Owen had given her. She didn’t have time to dwell on it, and the girl’s cries of pain pulled her attention. She turned to the crowd.
The death warrior, guessing her intentions, quickly followed and whispered, “Miss Fox, the meeting time with the Nathan family has already arrived. We don’t have time for delays.”
“It’s fine. Being a little late won’t matter,” Melody replied, pushing through the crowd. “Excuse me, I’m a doctor. Let me take a look at her…”
However, due to what had just happened with Cason, the girl’s mother hesitated and said timidly, “I… I only have sixty dollars…”
Melody shook her head. “Not all doctors only care about money like that guy. Don’t worry. I won’t charge you.”
The mother was stunned for a moment before expressing her gratitude with tears in her eyes. “Thank you, thank you so much…”
Melody nodded slightly, not wasting any more time. She immediately checked the girl.
