Chapter 569

Ken’s tone was so unquestionable.

In just an hour, he felt like he was on a roller coaster. The moment he found out that Melody had trouble, it was undeniable that he was more anxious and upset than when he found out that something had happened to Sid. He ran the red light all the way to the restaurant. Fortunately, the end result was good and no one could slander her.

Melody had no idea what kind of emotional earthquake Ken had experienced. She just lowered her eyes and nodded. “Got it…”

Ken looked at her deeply. He did not intend to tell Melody about that. “Tell me what happened in the room.”

Then Melody explained everything in detail. Ken’s expression did not change, but the light in his eyes became darker and cruel.

“What’s wrong with you? You knew it was a trap, so why did you still follow her upstairs.” Ken asked with surging emotions.

“What can I do?” Melody was helpless. “If I don’t go, Cadence would say I’m a heinous sister. Moreover, if I don’t get rid of her completely this time, there will be a next time. Like now, peace forever.”

Ken snorted from the tip of his nose. “Let’s see how Wendell will leave you in peace!”

Melody shrugged nonchalantly. “We’ll deal with whatever comes our way. If Wendell wants to deal with me, I have to be prepared to become the second Cadence.”

She was not boasting. Wendell alone could not do anything to her unless Ulric moved again. However, it was impossible to avoid these things. She might as well face the challenge head-on. Running away was not her style. She was no longer the overcautious version of herself before her rebirth.

Ken gave her a warning glare and said in a commanding tone, “You can’t leave my sight for the time being.”

“I-” She was about to refuse when the driver reminded her, “Mr. Swanson, Miss Fox, we’ve arrived at the hospital.”

Melody looked up. It was the rival of the hospital she worked at, Silverlake Hospital

However, it did not matter where she did the checkup. After all, it seemed impolite and annoying to keep going to Central Hospital and seeking help from Rodney.

At the thought of this, Melody could not care less about what Ken said for the time being. She opened the door and got out, prepared to end this quickly before going back to make a plan to deal with what Wendell might do.

As soon as Melody got off, Ken followed closely behind.

The two of them quickly arrived at the emergency department. After a round of examination, the doctor said, “It’s nothing serious. Her internal organs have been not injured. The bruises will slowly dissipate.”

Melody already knew that this would be the case. Just as she was about to get up and leave, Ken pressed her back into her chair.

She looked at Ken in confusion, who frowned and said to the doctor, “You just pressed her body a few times. How do you know that there’s no injury inside? Let’s give her an ultrasound or CT scan.”

“She really doesn’t need it.” As soon as the doctor finished speaking, his body trembled when he met Ken’s cold gaze. “You’re right. It’s better for us to use the machine for a high-precision checkup.”

Ken raised his eyebrows. “Then write the checklist.”

The doctor immediately prescribed two checklists.

Melody looked helpless. “Ken, I really…”

“What?” His eyes were full of warning.

Melody shook her head. “It’s fine. I’ll go for a checkup. Wait for me here.”

With that, she walked out and cursed in her heart. ‘What’s wrong with you? Why could a man be so annoying? If my mother was alive, she wouldn’t even be so troublesome.’

However, even though she was complaining, there seemed to be a sweet spring gushing out from the depths of her heart with a pure sweetness. It was undeniable that Ken’s concern made her happy.

Realizing this, Melody immediately reached out and patted her face. “Melody, wake up!”

She took a deep breath. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a white figure flash past. Her expression did not change at all. She took the checklists and walked towards the ultrasound room.

However, just as Melody turned the corner, the white figure hid behind a green plant that was as tall as a person, staring at her back. It was not until Melody’s figure completely disappeared that the person heaved a sigh of relief. “It’s really Melody. Damn it, she almost saw me…”

The woman patted her chest in relief. But the next second, a hand was on her shoulder.

“Ah!” This woman screamed in shock.

That person was also shocked by the scream, and took a step back and asked, “Dr. Knowles, what’s wrong?”

Regina, who was pretending to be Wilona Knowles, realized that it was a young nurse from the hospital. She heaved a sigh of relief and explained awkwardly, “I’m fine. I was shocked when you suddenly patted me.”

The nurse smiled apologetically and asked, “What were you looking at just now? I saw you hiding behind here. Did you see the director?”

“Director?” Regina tilted her head.

“Yes…” The nurse smiled and said, “The director must admire you too much. I’ve seen him secretly paying attention to you a few times. However, his fanaticism is indeed kind of too much, right?”

Regina’s heart skipped a beat and she asked nervously, “You said that he’s always secretly watching me?”

“That’s right, especially when you’re on duty in the emergency department. I think he might want to learn from you.” The nurse laughed uncontrollably.

However, Regina broke out in a cold sweat when she heard that. The dean must have suspected her and maybe this was why he handed his wife’s surgery to her.

‘Isn’t he afraid that he will lose his wife? Damn it!’ Regina’s heart was filled with hatred and panic but she did not show them on her face

Regina forced a smile and said, “Yes, the director is indeed funny. Well… I’ll go get busy first. I’ll get off work after one last ward round.”

“Okay.” The nurse did not dare to waste any more time and quickly left with the medical record.

Regina finally gritted her teeth as she watched the nurse leave.

It was so ridiculous that her mother forced her to pretend to be Dr. Knowles and claimed that this would allow her to improve. It should be pushing her into the abyss of danger.

Fortunately, Melody did not notice her just now. Otherwise, she would not have to wait for the surgery tomorrow and her identity would have been exposed now.

Fortunately, she reacted quickly and dodged in time.

However, Regina did not see that the person who frightened her was right standing behind a wall and looking at her.

“Regina? Dr. Knowles?” She thought that she probably knew who was the impostor.

‘That’s interesting.’ Melody slowly curled her lips into a sly smile.
