Chapter 581

Melody instinctively flirted once again, her voice softening. “Please, Ken…”

As soon as she finished speaking, she realized something was off. She stared at her phone screen in shock, her eyes wide open.

‘Did I just flirt?’ she thought.

Susan treated her like a younger family member, even as affectionately as a daughter. It was normal for her to act cutesy with Susan but with Ken…

‘He must think I’m disgusting now.’ Melody blushed deeply, her embarrassment nearly overwhelming. She instinctively wanted to hang up.

But at that moment, Ken’s voice came through the phone. “Alright, I can’t help it. I’ll pick you up at Herbathrive after my meeting, and we’ll head to Central Hospital together.”

Melody blinked in astonishment. ‘What? Ken isn’t disgusted? Does he actually like this kind of thing and enjoy hearing me be all sweet? That’s such a strange preference.’

Unsure how to respond, she heard a voice on the other end. “Mr. Swanson, it’s time for the meeting.”

Hearing this, Melody quickly said, “I’ll see you then. I’m hanging up now.”

She abruptly ended the call and pressed the phone firmly against her chest. ‘I must be losing my mind. I actually treated Ken like Susan. Holy shit!’

Her mind was in turmoil, but she managed to maintain a calm exterior and turned to Seventeen. “Let’s go. Mr. Swanson agreed.”

Seventeen immediately responded, “Yes.”

‘From the day Mr. Swanson first introduced me to Miss Fox, I knew there had to be something between them. Sure enough, Mr. Swanson hates it when people talk to him like that, but Miss Fox does, and he doesn’t mind at all. What does that mean? They must have something going on,’ Seventeen thought.

Seventeen tried to calm down and drove with forced composure, almost stalling the car at a red light.

Meanwhile, inside Herbathrive, David was going about his usual routine of seeing patients. However, with fewer patients today, he personally escorted an elderly gentleman downstairs.

After a few months of work and occasional learning sessions with Melody, David had significantly improved his medical skills and had even gained a bit of local renown.

“Thank you, Dr. Marrow. After finishing this last dose of medicine, my wife won’t faint anymore. Whenever you’re free, we’d love to have you over for a meal,” the elderly gentleman said sincerely.

David felt a mix of embarrassment and joy.

He loved being a doctor and helping others was part of what made it fulfilling.

He just preferred not to be rewarded.

He waved his hand. “No need to thank me. I’m just doing my job. But if anyone asks about traditional medicine in the future, please recommend Herbathrive.”

“Of course,” the elderly man replied with a smile, taking the medicine and leaving.

After sending the patient off, David was about to head to the back to check the newly arrived medicinal herbs when a young couple walked through the doors of Herbathrive.

David immediately approached them. “Are you here for prescriptions or a consultation?”

The girl, dressed head-to-toe in designer clothes, looked David up and down with a hint of disdain. Noticing the doctor’s badge on his chest, her contempt softened slightly.

However, seeing that David was wearing almost worn-out canvas shoes, it was clear to her that he was just a poor, lowly person.

She wasn’t inclined to speak with someone she deemed beneath her, so she signaled her boyfriend to handle the situation.

Understanding the cue, her boyfriend looked at David with equal arrogance. “We’re here for an interview.”

David, who was not very perceptive about people’s attitudes, immediately recognized them and said, “Ah, it’s you two… Elton Grant and Charlotte Wallrich, right?”

Worried that the younger pair might be nervous about the interview, David tried to lighten the mood with a joke. “You don’t quite look like your photos on the resume. I didn’t recognize you right away.”

However, as soon as David finished speaking, Charlotte’s face darkened. “What do you mean? Are you saying I look heavily photoshopped? I look exactly like my photo, okay?”

Elton, standing next to Charlotte, also quickly became stern. “What’s your problem? You’re being really rude.”

David was taken aback. He hadn’t expected them to misinterpret his joke.

Realizing that some people might be sensitive about such things, he felt regretful and quickly apologized. “I’m sorry. I’m just a bit straightforward and didn’t mean to offend. I was just trying to ease any tension with a joke. You both look even better in person, really.”

Seeing David’s sincere apology, Elton signaled Charlotte to let it go.

Due to their extensive travel abroad, the couple had wasted too much time and had missed the opportunity for their hospital internship in collaboration with their school. They were reluctant to let their parents know, so Herbathrive was their best remaining option.

If they don’t secure an internship soon and get their paperwork done, they might not graduate smoothly.

This would directly affect Charlotte’s chance to inherit the Wallrich family’s fortune.

And Elton’s dream of living off her wealth would be dashed.

Charlotte understood Elton’s look and knew what he meant, but she was still annoyed.

As the heiress of the Wallrich family, she had never faced such open mockery from anyone besides the family’s two old fogies.

‘He thinks a simple apology will make me forget this? No way. If word gets out, what will happen to my reputation?’ she thought.

Charlotte pointed at David’s nose and said, “You’ll need to kneel and bow your head if you want to let this go. Otherwise, I won’t forgive you.”

“What?” David looked up at Charlotte in shock, wondering if he was hearing things.

Seeing the cold, unyielding expression on Charlotte’s face, he realized he hadn’t misheard. Charlotte was seriously demanding that he kneel because of a joke.

The other staff members on the first floor of Herbathrive looked over in disbelief. ‘Are these two out of their minds? Didn’t they see that David was smiling when he spoke? It’s clear he was just joking.’

Even if David had offended them, he had sincerely apologized, and there was no need for him to kneel and bow.

They were just young people.

Seeing that David hadn’t moved, Charlotte raised her chin in irritation. “Are you deaf? I told you to kneel.”
