Chapter 582

David was furious.

It was his fault for speaking out of turn first, but Charlotte’s behavior was simply too outrageous.

“Why should I kneel to you? Is it really acceptable for you to insult me like that? I already apologized and clarified that I was just trying to lighten the mood for your interview. Now you want me to kneel? Isn’t that a bit much?” he was angry.

“Oh? Why should you? Just because I’m the eldest daughter of the Wallrich family.” Charlotte sneered.

David clenched his fists. “Even if the President supported you, I still wouldn’t kneel.”

“You piece of trash, who do you think you are? Do you have any idea who I am? How dare you speak to me like that? You’re practically asking for trouble.” Charlotte was shouting angrily when Nana, hearing the commotion, rushed over.

Nana had always disapproved of Charlotte’s habitual arrogance.

Understanding the situation, she quickly stepped forward to speak on David’s behalf. “Charlotte, this is Herbathrive, not your family estate. Tone down your arrogance. David didn’t do it on purpose, so why are you being so aggressive?”

Charlotte looked at Nana with a hint of surprise before her lips curled into a mocking smile. “Oh, I thought it was someone important. Turns out it’s just a poor thing kicked out by her own father.”

Nana’s face darkened. She hadn’t expected Charlotte to be so rude that she even dragged her into it. “Charlotte! Who do you think you’re insulting? Don’t push it too far.”

“What can you do about it?” Charlotte smirked, noticing Nana’s Herbathrive uniform, her sarcasm growing.

She deliberately raised her voice. “Do you think you’re still the eldest daughter of the Jensen family? Now, you’re not even fit to be a servant. If I’m not mistaken, you and your mother were completely cut off, right? I thought you’d be starving on the streets by now. Who knew you’d come here to work?”

“You…” Nana clenched her teeth, unable to refute Charlotte.

Because Charlotte was right.

Her current status was indeed worlds apart from Charlotte’s, and she had indeed been cut off.

Seeing Nana’s flushed face and her inability to respond, Charlotte’s smile grew even more radiant.

She folded her arms and looked down at Nana from a high perch. “But you don’t have to struggle so much. I could help you out.”

Nana turned her face away and said coldly, “I don’t need your help. I’m doing just fine.”

“Really? Those shoes you’re wearing must cost only around 10 dollars, right? You’re wearing cheap knock-offs and still claim that you’re doing well?” she continued.

Nana took a couple of steps back, feeling guilty.

David furrowed his brow and stood in front of Nana. “Whether you’re doing well or not isn’t about how much money you have. People like you, with your arrogance, will never understand that. And don’t forget that you’re here for an interview. If you’re hired, will you also be working at the clinic?”

“How could I be anything like her? We’ve stated clearly in our application that we don’t want any of your money,” Nana replied.

“That’s right,” Elton added with a smug expression.

Charlotte sneered, pointing at David as she spoke to Nana. “Nana, I’m fully capable of helping you out of this situation. If you bark like a dog right now and slap this ungrateful commoner, I’ll give you 2 million dollars. With that money, you could easily move with your mother to a small town and live a life free from worries.”

David was taken aback by her words, instinctively shrinking back and casting a complicated look at Nana.

He wondered if Nana might actually agree to such a request.

After all, not long ago, he and Nana had been at each other’s throats, and she had even brought a group of thugs to cause trouble at the clinic.

Moreover, 2 million dollars was a sum that most people would never earn in a lifetime. With that money, Nana could entirely transform her life.

Anyone in her position might be tempted, especially someone who was used to living in luxury.

But the time they had spent together over the past few days had improved their relationship considerably. If Nana really did slap him, he might not even have the heart to retaliate.

In the next moment, Nana actually moved, seeming as if she was about to act on Charlotte’s demand.

“Nana?” David’s eyes widened, his voice trembling slightly.

The other people present quickly spoke up. “Nana, come to your senses. Don’t listen to that woman’s nonsense.”

“Yeah, Nana, she’s just trying to mess with you.”

Charlotte raised an eyebrow and promptly took out a check from her rare Birkin bag, filling it out for 2 million dollars and displaying it for everyone to see. “2 million dollars is just pocket change to me. Why would I bother using such a trivial amount to toy with her? Nana, I’m giving you three seconds. If you do as I ask, this check is yours.”

“Three, two, one…” As soon as she finished counting, Nana actually raised her hand.

Charlotte’s smile widened with excitement, but before she could fully revel in her triumph, Nana’s hand suddenly changed direction and came down hard on Charlotte’s face.

The sharp slap left Charlotte stunned, her expression frozen in shock.

Elton, taken aback, was momentarily speechless, unable to process what had just happened.

David, however, quickly snapped back to reality and looked at Nana with evident relief. “Nana… you… Thank you.”

Nana cleared her throat awkwardly. “Thank me? By the looks of it, you didn’t trust me at all. Did you really think I would follow her orders and hit you?”

“I…” David’s response was cut short as Charlotte snapped out of her daze and screamed, “Bitch! How dare you hit me!”

Charlotte raised her hand, aiming to grab Nana’s hair. Nana swiftly dodged.

Seeing Nana evade her, Charlotte’s fury intensified, and her previously pristine face twisted into a grotesque mask of rage. “Elton, get rid of her. If you kill her, it’s on me.”

Elton, though irritated, was slightly more composed than Charlotte.

After a brief moment of anger, he quickly remembered their purpose for being there.

He pulled Charlotte aside and whispered urgently, “Charlotte, don’t forget why we’re here. Your grandfather has already made sure that the modern hospital won’t let us in through any back doors. So, we can’t get into the modern hospital.

“There are only a few traditional hospitals hiring, and this one is the most well-known and recognized by schools for internships. If you escalate this, and this hospital refuses to let us intern, you will have no chance of inheriting the

Wallrich family’s fortune.”

Though much of her anger had dissipated, Charlotte stubbornly retorted. “I’m their only granddaughter. It’s impossible that they won’t let me inherit the fortune if I don’t graduate. I don’t believe they would actually donate the family fortune,” she said.
