Chapter 585
Charlotte was completely oblivious to the fact that she was in the middle of an exam. Acting like a queen, she commanded Melody. “I’m feeling a bit tired from answering questions. Go get me a drink. I want an iced Americano.” Elton put down his pen and said, “I’ll have a mocha.”
The two of them seemed less like they were in an exam and more like they were ordering from a coffee shop.
The pharmacy clerk was startled and about to intervene when Melody, smiling, spoke up. “Sure, if you both manage to get hired, I’ll buy you a drink every day. But for now, please focus on your exam, or I’ll have to consider it as abandoning the test.”
Charlotte’s expression darkened immediately. “What do you mean? How dare a mere errand girl threaten me? Didn’t anyone tell you who I am?”
“I know,” Melody said, maintaining her calm demeanor. “The Wallrich family’s eldest daughter, granddaughter of Oliver from Central Hospital.”
Charlotte raised an eyebrow smugly. “Well, at least you have some insight. Now go get my coffee. Oh, and have someone else deliver it. You’re so unattractive that you’ll spoil my mood for the exam.”
The pharmacy clerk’s face darkened. Everyone at Herbathrive revered Melody, and yet these two dared to be so disrespectful.
But Melody remained unperturbed, her smile even more pronounced. “Ms. Wallrich, you might not have heard me clearly. Let me repeat myself. If you don’t continue with the exam and stay quiet, I’ll have to consider it as abandoning the test.”
“You…” Charlotte was taken aback by Melody’s stubbornness. Infuriated, she stood up and pointed at Melody, ready to unleash her anger.
But Elton sensed something was off.
If she was just an errand girl, she had no right to declare their test abandoned.
Realizing this, Elton quickly pulled Charlotte aside. Charlotte, hold on. She might not be just an errand girl.”
Charlotte looked Melody up and down, scrutinizing her.
Seeing she wore no branded items and carried a simple white Herbathrive bag, Charlotte sneered. “She dresses so poorly and looks so insignificant. She must be an errand girl.”
“Do not insult Miss Fox,” the pharmacy clerk said, his forehead bulging with veins as he struggled to keep his composure. “She’s in charge of Herbathrive. All major and minor affairs of Herbathrive are decided by her. She’s our boss.”
Charlotte’s smile froze. “You must be joking…”
Just then, David arrived, having heard that Melody was at Herbathrive.
He ran up, looking ecstatic to see her. “Miss Fox, you’re finally here! Everyone has been waiting for you.”
Charlotte’s eyes widened in shock.
David’s level of respect for her was astonishing.
‘So… this unattractive woman really is in charge of Herbathrive?’ At that moment, Charlotte felt a pang of regret.
“Yep, I’m here.” Melody dismissed Charlotte’s reaction and said to David, “I can handle things here, so you go on with your tasks.”
“Actually…” David lowered his voice. “We haven’t finalized the content for the second clinical exam yet.”
“Don’t worry about that. Just let them finish with the patients first,” Melody replied.
David’s eyes brightened. “Have you figured it out already?”
“No,” Melody said cryptically. “In any case, you don’t need to worry about it. With the number of patients today, focus on them for now.”
“Got it.” David, reassured, took a final look at Charlotte and Elton before heading off.
The pharmacy clerk watched Charlotte’s expression, noting her frustration with a sense of satisfaction.
‘See, I wasn’t lying. Miss Fox is indeed the person in charge,’ he wondered.
Charlotte, aware of the clerk’s gaze, ground her teeth in anger. ‘Damn it…’
But she quickly regained her composure. ‘So what if she’s the person in charge? The fact that she’s in charge means she should be even more worried about me taking down Herbathrive. I’ll make sure she regrets this.’
At this moment, Melody said, “Hey guys, can you continue with your exams now?”
Charlotte bit her lower lip hard. Under Elton’s constant gaze, she reluctantly sat back down to take the exam.
‘What’s there to be arrogant about even if she is the person in charge? Once my internship is over and I have my certificate, I’ll make sure this ugly woman gets what’s coming to her. And David and Nana… none of them will escape, she wondered.
Charlotte gripped her pen tightly, her eyes flashing with resentment and anger.
Seeing this, Elton reminded her. “We’ve already wasted some time. Let’s hurry up. Have you managed to get in touch with your contact?”
“Why the rush?” Charlotte glared at Elton and said in a tone only they could hear. “The signal’s connected. Just answer the questions based on the situation. Make sure your answers don’t match mine exactly.”
Elton was displeased with Charlotte’s tone, but remembering the benefits of marrying her, he suppressed his irritation and continued to flatter her. “Sure thing.
Charlotte, you’re the best.”
“Hmph, obviously!” Charlotte lifted her chin, her expression smug.
Melody lightly tapped the table twice.
“Please remain quiet. Whispering could be considered
cheating,” she said, noticing Charlotte shoot her a scathing look.
For the next few minutes of the exam, Charlotte seemed to settle down, and both of them focused intently on their papers.
Since they were behaving, Melody decided she didn’t need to keep a close watch.
She signaled to the pharmacy clerk to take a break and slowly walked to stand behind Charlotte and Elton, intending to check their progress after half an hour.
As she glanced at their papers, a fleeting look of surprise crossed her usually impassive face.
The first half of the test consisted mainly of multiple-choice questions, and both of them answered all the questions correctly. Some of the questions, which David had marked out in advance due to their difficulty, were also answered correctly.
Recalling the background information she had found on them, Melody sensed something was off.
At that moment, Charlotte turned and said irritably, “Hey, I don’t like having someone watching me while I’m working on my test. Could you stand a bit further away? I don’t do cheating, so you don’t have to worry.”
“Sorry.” Melody apologized but her eyes continued to scrutinize Charlotte’s face.
